Why couldn't he accomplish anything subsequently then? If he was still prime why no good wins afterwards despite fighting on for two decades?

Why the kayo loss to Johnson in his very next fight?

Because he was damaged from the Tarver beatings. Beatdowns like that affect a fighter, like the Fury losses have affected Wilder.

You’re making up your own narrative. Jones was 35 and 50 fights in when he fought Tarver. The man packed on 30 pounds of muscle and dropped it to go back down to light heavyweight and you’re still trying to convince people that he was still at his peak, knowing the amount of stress his body went through? Also, so what that he was ranked P4P #1? No one knew that he was on a decline. You’re a grade A clown.

So you’re just going to ignore the other things that I mentioned? Example, how did Margarito perform after he was exposed? You can’t say the same about Jones. He still looked like the most physically gifted fighters on camera.

18 pounds actually, he weighed in as a Cruiserweight. Light Heavyweight was his weight class. There was 8 months between the Ruiz fight and Tarver 1 for him to adjust back. He was still sharp as **** in the rounds he won against Tarver, that was a great fight. And Tarver was the same age as Jones. You're a sensitive fanboy making excuses.

Nothing sensitive about me buddy. Just trying to keep people honest. Folks need to start giving fair assessments instead of dk riding their favorites and disparaging others with nonsense just because you’re hating. Now that’s emotional/sensitive behavior.

You’re not helping your case with exaggeration:
Jones was 34 years 1 month, not 35
Jones fought at 175 and was ripped; presumably he had to cut 5-10lbs to make 175. Probably not too difficult for him, given his discipline.
Roy weighed in at 193lbs for Ruiz, and was still ripped. Let’s say he put on15lbs of pure muscle - nowhere near 30lbs like you claim.
Even if he put on “only” 15lbs of pure muscle, he could have only done that by using steroids. Any reasonably intelligent, honest person knows that you CANNOT put that type of muscle on when you’re already in top shape, and especially not when you’re focused on maintaining flexibility and endurance.
Roy was a heavy favorite going into the Ruiz match, like he was in every other one of his fights, and the fight played out like all of his other fights; an incredibly gifted, special fighter dominating a very average fighter. The only things that made this fight more sellable was the fact that Ruiz was very unpopular and 25lbs heavier and those facts alone might make the fight more interesting. But it really didn’t.
Everyone knew that Jones cherry picked one of the worst heavyweight “champions” ever in order to win an alphabet belt and claim he made history. Casuals may have eaten that up, but real boxing fans weren’t that smitten. The only thing that might have earned Roy the adulation he craved was if he stayed at heavyweight and fought Tyson, Holyfield and Lewis. He would have probably been able to beat Tyson and Evander, but Lennox Lewis would have been the crown jewel. Like Billy Conn challenging Joe Louis and Michael Spinks challenging Larry Holmes. But Roy gave up his precious “history making” WBA trinket and chose what he believed to be the safest bet and went back to 175 to fight Tarver. And the rest is history.
Roy Jones is a victim of his own hubris and stupidity. He used illegal drugs to gain muscle that he didn’t even need to beat a mediocre titlist, lost his ill-gotten muscle and then allowed himself to be goaded into a rematch with a man who wasn’t in awe of him.
If Roy had been 1 shot, KTFO in the 2nd round by Lennox Lewis or Mike Tyson, people would’ve praised him for his balls and still considered him one of the greatest ever, instead of making memes of him falling to the canvas with the sound of shattering glass for the soundtrack.

Much of his weight loss to get to 175 would have been water; he dehydrated/cut weight to make 175.
Nevertheless, dehydrating in that way may make a fighter fatigued and weakened.

That combined with the muscle loss seemed to rob him of a lot. His physical strength and power, his speed, his reflexes and his punch resistance. There’s no denying that.

RoJos are all over the place with their logic

Roy mysteriously became shot over night at 35 y/o but certain other fighters are in the midst of their primes at 36-40 y/o according to them

All of Roy's losses are excused away due to him having ''declined with age'' but his wins during his steroid enhanced ''prime'' had nothing whatsoever to do with him jousting roids into his ass ie. cheating

He was involved in virtually no wars, took very little damage through his career because in their own words he was so amazing no one could lay glove on him

Calzaghe was in the midst of his prime at 36 even though his hands were in a terrible state and shot to bits and his punch resistance was clearly not what it was in his prime due to the fact he, in their own words again, ''couldn't avoid a right hand to save his life,'' and had fought many big punchers, had been involved in many wars, and had taken way more damage than Roy did or was ever capable of with that glass jaw of his

Roy became shot overnight at 35 due to age and coming back down from HW after bulking up to fight up there, which of course he ever so obviously did by jousting even more roids in his ass, despite the fact that he had 10 freaking months to come back down in weight and many fighters cut 20lbs in weight the week of the fight and it's not uncommon at all for MMA fighters to cut 30lbs during fight week or cut over 20lbs overnight

And even worse, he actually beat Tarver in the first fight :risas3:

He lost to Calzaghe because he was old and shot even though he still was super fast and still looked the same even after facing Joe. There's a very stark contrast to that Roy and the one of years later where you could clearly see he'd lost speed.

Despite what the cultists will desperately try and convince us and indeed themselves and each other because they desperately need to believe it, there's no difference at all and this could not be more plain to see just from the video footage

    Still super fast

Roy's chin was shot overnight at 35 but that wouldn't even be a factor vs ''Calslappy'' who couldn't even punch in his prime according to the Rojos because his hands were in a terrible state and shot to bits by the time he fought Roy so chin or lack thereof wouldn't even come into it

And isn't it weird how these weirdos are ever so conveniently not only ignoring the fact that Roy was a super enhanced steroid cheat and Joe was a clean fighter, but they're also conveniently ignoring the fact, and they know damned well it's a fact too, that Joe agreed to fight B-Hop in the US in 2002 and the only reason the fight didn't get made then is because B-Hop turned it down despite being offered a career high payday.

There were numerous instances they tried to make the fight and a media member even put that to B-Hop during one of the pre-fight pressers when B-Hop finally agreed to face him years later, asking him why it didn't get made earlier during those numerous attempts and he just sidestepped the question by replying it was happening now.

Anyone who blames Calzaghe for that fight not happening back then doesn't deserve to get taken remotely seriously and they are certainly in no position to criticize Joe for ''lying'' about wanting to face Roy back then when they're lying through their teeth about that and afford Roy, who in their own words again, is ''the most naturally gifted fighter ever,'' a free pass for cheating and artificially enhancing himself with PEDs in a sport as inherently dangerous as boxing when he already had a huge head start over everyone else genetically according to them.

Also, as they also well know, Calzaghe is one of the most injury-ravaged fighters ever, going way back to his teens when he was told by a specialist he would never be able to box again, and when your career is so heavily impacted by injuries, especially to the tools of your trade your hands, and so much so you can't even spar for years, your confidence will obviously go up and down depending on how healthy you are.

We call them a cult for a reason

Why would Roy Jones duck Joe Calzaghe? He's not even a puncher

I find it hilarious how Calzaghe fans call Roy Jones a duck when Calzaghe had a whole fake career in the UK until the very end of his career

Why would Roy Jones move down to 168? Why couldn't Calzaghe go to 175? Roy Jones was the number 1 pound for pound at the time.

Saying that Roy Jones ducked Nigel Benn, Steve Collins and Frank Liles makes sense and has plausibility but Roy Jones ducking Joe Calzaghe? No

I always remember Joe saying, half-heartedly, for Jones to come down to 168 which was unlikely. I think he knew what was up if he'd decided to go up to LH a decade earlier.

    CooperKupp,

    Narrative?

Roy’s prime was in the 90’s.

Before they fought, Joe himself literally said that fighting Roy would be pointless, as he was a shot fighter, and had been for years.

He didn’t fight Dariusz, because Universum wouldn’t even meet with the relevant people. No official meetings ever took place. Not a single one.

    Types like me?

    I watched Joe’s entire career.

Why would I not want to admit that?

    Okay.

First of all, your first point simply isn’t true.

It’s absolutely nonsensical to believe that Roy would have shelled up, when he was faster, more powerful, more accurate, more elusive and more confident.

The reality is: Joe had the chance to try and prove that, in real time, but he wouldn’t pursue the fight.

His phoney call outs were as embarrassing as your posts.

Again, the guy you’re defending literally said that Roy was shot, and had been for years.

He wrote that in his autobiography, which was published the year before they fought, in 2007.

    He looked pretty sharp?

    1. No. He did not.

    2. He fought a shot Tito, who hadn’t fought in 3 years, and who couldn’t even make their agreed upon catch-weight at the first attempt.

Here’s a nice video for you to look at:

I’m not sure if you’re banned for a few weeks, or if you’re perma banned.

Hopefully, you’ll be back soon to answer people’s points.

First of all, thank you for you concern.

    It really means a lot.

    I really appreciate it.

Give me any example of where I have displayed any genuine HATRED.

Just come and try and refute any of what I’ve said, with something of substance.

    Thanks.

I hope to see you soon.

He wasn’t a hugely skilled fighter.

    He was never a technician.

    He wasn’t a Nunn.

    He wasn’t a Pea.

He was a volume punching swarmer, who could be very scrappy.

    He often showed poor technique.

He missed wildly, and he’d cuff with the inside of his gloves.

On many occasions, he concentrated more on volume rather than accuracy.

    He wiggled his bum?

Benny Leonard and Willie Pep would have been in awe.

    He embarrassed Roy?

He said that he’d be disappointed to fight Roy, as he was no longer a great fighter. But then took the fight regardless.

He embarrassed himself far more than what he embarrassed Roy.
