Crap division and even then several of the champs there would have beaten him, Jones and Toney for starters.

Rjj is the only fighter that definately beats Joe. People like Toney, Hopkins (if joe and Hop are both prime) and Benn have a good chance but are not heavy favourites imo. A lot also depends on how various top middles handle the extra 8lbs.

Also, this talk about Hopkins and Joe being past it. It's not as simple as on first glance, Calzaghes power has completely gone and his quickness has definately been eroded. Hopkins still seems to have most of his physical gifts (hence his early rounds success) but his stamina is clearly **** and cost him the fight. I don't think this tells us much about what would've happened if they had met in their primes.

The guy hasn't beat a single ATG (unless you count Hopkins as one) and you're saying he could defeat ANY of them.

I would have laughed if I wasn't crying.

Not as simple as that. Floyd hasn't beaten a single atg either (unless you count Oscar) but he's clearly an atg himself.

Before anyone jumps on me I don't think Joe is as good as Floyd so lets just nip that in the bud!

Personally I believe there are many atg's he wouldn't beat (Spinks, Jones) but I'd fancy him against agressive come forward fighters like Tiger and Lamotta.

Same could be said of the Yanks, they often refuse to travel and claim as Huggy bear Hopkins said that the US is the proving ground:lol:

**** the US doesnt even have any great fighters no more, except for Joy who is running from Cotto:yep

I love reading these threads about who would beat who in their prime, great fun.
    Points to consider:

Most British boxing commentators or former fighters ie Mcguigan,Cooper believe that Calzaghe is one of the best 3 if not the best British fighter of all time - above Benn and Eubanks who both have admitted themselves that they probably would have lost to Calzaghe at any times in their careers, Eubank already has even though Joe was inexperienced as a pro and Eubanks was 32 (not that old considering joe, hopkins, and RJJ age!)

Calzaghe doesn't rate Hopkins, ridiculed Tony and as someone said before was so up and down with his weight that he would have run out of gas long before the end of the fight.

The only fighter since the division was formed imho that could beat Calzaghe is RJJ, I would have loved to have seen this fight though because I don't think it would have been as one sided as some people think, I think it would have been a war, and the fight would fluctuate in tactics throughout but no way on earth would Calzaghe back down or be bullied by Jones.
I think it would have been a good test of both, anyone who watches Calzaghe knows he wont give up, his will is incredible and he is smart, Jones could do it all but I sometimes wonder what his heart would be like if he went the distance.

Yes, but this thread isn't about Calzaghe being an ATG. It's about him defeating any fighter in history.

Forget Calzaghe, not even PBF could do that.

I think Dariusz Michalczewski would have stopped him for the WBO 175 title if they had fought in the 1990's.
