I mean I never saw toney or jones fight at 168, I was more concerned about the domestic scene and they were the fights being shown on ITV and Sky. Watson I believed was the best out of the bunche Koed Ben when benn was at his dangerous best, Unfortunate to draw the first fight against Eubank nad the a creuel knock out in twelfth by Eubank and we know unfortunately known what happened after that. Wait TFFP, Barry Mcgiugian was not English and he got noteraity and good press.

It's not because they were English that they get more respect. It is because they had each other at the time which increased each others worth.

It is also because they both had fights where they stretched themselves and went to a place that few boxers do Benn Vs McClennan and Eubank Watson II.

I know its not Calzaghe's fault that he hasnt had to give that much of himself in a fight to win.

That aside, the worth of boxers is only truly evaluated after they have retired. As Joe is still active I wouldn't worry about his respect, that will come in spades 3 - 5 years down the line.

Good point about the Pre prime Calzaghe beating Post Prime Eubank. That is near as prime v prime as you ask for I suppose.

Any fights against Watson, Eubank, Benn, Collins, Graham would start with Calzaghe favourite, but not would be a given or easy!

Eubank & Benn fought in front of 42K. That is Eubank and Benn neither on their own.

And can you recall how disliked Eubank was by the British public, probably up until Calzaghe beat him. Once he retired and his career was re evaluated and he is given the credit he deserves.

Well Calzaghe will, eventually get this, and then some.. When were Benn or Eubank ever in the pound for pound top 10??

Eubank & Benn fought in arena all their career. Calzaghe now fights in Stadiums!!!

 

Calzaghe is a great fighter, and lower tier ATG on resume, and higher based on ability alone. But at some point I would ask that you give the same respect to the great fighters on this side of the pond that you argue for constantly in regards to your own revered fighters. Fans on both sides lack some knowledge and have some bias, but this has little to do with the fighters themselves.
