He's a great fighter with alot of impressive names on his record but I'm slightly put off that he took so long to finally fight overseas and when the time came it was against a faded roy jones and an extremely close fight against bernard after defending a world title for several years in his hometown which could barely hold 2000 people. not hating just my opinion

Hopkins and Jones avoided the young knock out artist for years, waited until he was shot, dragged him up in weight, brought him to their own back yard and still got schooled by 'Zaggers.

Young knockout artist haha we're talking about calzaghe not tyson and calzaghe is notoriously known for slapping and european refs will stop a fight before the guys even landed the punch

Eubanks himself said zaggers hit like a truck, and chris is known for his iron chin.

I guarantee you 100% Jeff Lacy wishes he was stopped after a couple of rounds.

Google Calzaghe and have a look at his record. I agree he should have fought in the states a lot earlier than he did but at the time he didn't really need to. He was fighting the best in the world and mandatory challengers who were all based in the UK. When he did fight an American challenger in Lacey he destroyed him. That's the thing about being champ, your challengers come to you.

Don't know where you got your figures from but when Calzaghe beat Kessler at the Cardiff Millenium stadium it was in front of 50,000 people.

    Joe Calzaghe
WBO, WBA, IBF, WBC AND RING WORLD SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION

    43-0 (32KO)

Not bad for someone who you claims is a slapper.

Why give an opinion if you are not aware of what you are commenting about?
Only around half of the world title fights Calzaghe was involved in, were in the country he was living.
Calzaghe also did travel with defences in Denmark and Germany. If you are reffering about him not being in America to fight, I dont know why as who was there at SMW that he hadnt beaten, for him to defend against? He beat Brewer, Mitchell and Lacy. Why would he travel for them? He was champ and Hopkins was the one who backed out of facing Calzaghe in America years previously.
Think you need to be more aware when commenting

Where he fought is immaterial it's who he fought that was more important. Fact is him fighting on US soil for most of his career was pointless as all the best Super middles were European. Hopkins was at middleweight, Jones Jr at light heavy and the best Americans at super middle were the likes of Liles, Tate, Mitchell and Brewster.

The problem Calzaghe had is that he didn't have the drive to strive for greatness. Ottke was the one who beat Tate, Brewster and Mitchell first while Calzaghe waited until Ottke had beaten Brewster and Mitchell before facing them. This is why Ottke was seen as the number 1 at super middle not Calzaghe.

Calzaghe should be very grateful that Lacy came along when he did. A hyped US fighter who wasn't afraid to travel or face the best. That win took Calzaghe to a knew level and exposed him to the fame that such a high profile fight could bring, it took him out of his comfort zone and made him realise he had been playing it safe too long.

He couldn't make SNW all the way back then.

Calzaghe gets help to make weight

Joe Calzaghe has called in a dietician to help him make the 168lb limit for his 18 March fight with Brian Magee.
"I've always done my own dieting but an expert knows more about supplements and vitamins," said Calzaghe in his column for the South Wales Argus.

"As you get older it doesn't get any easier to shed the weight so it made sense and it's made me feel stronger."

Cant see what you think is wrong with a fighter using a dietician, as many do :patsch

No , he was starving himself. He was meant to move up and face Tarver back in 2004 because making the weight was too much of a struggle.

But he bottled it and stayed on fighting nothing fights further milking his WBO belt.. One of his opponents was so useless Sky refused to broadcast it:rofl
