That just proves Calzaghes not one dimensional like this ***s (Bar Pac)

Calzaghes speed also proved to be a lot faster than RJJ, so this thread is auto fail.

The most pathetic thing about this gif is hopkins. As usual headbutting and using dirty tactics. But "it's part of boxing" for some people. No it's not. I wonder how may fights he would win without crying, whining, complaining, headbutting, faking lowblows, faking being almost KO'd by a soft rabbit punch after he rabbit punches his opponent, jumping out of the ring like Kermit. ETC, ETC. **** Hopkins.

This is another example of a fight where Hopkins wouldn't have made it close if he didn't use his dirty tactics.

Hmm, a pro-fighter once told me that slappy Joe had so much success with this technique because he was literally battering opponents with the non padded and usually laced side of the glove.

Imagine the sting of being hit by padded wet (with sweat and grease) leather and then replace that with literally being slapped hard with the same wet leather only unpadded and rivetted with taut strapping. It's blunt force trauma versus whiplash.

    Never did like Calzaghe.

I think we should all base our opinions of fighters pro-careers based on 5s gifs. Let me find that one which shows Joe taking Hopkins roughly from behind... :D

Can't get much closer than a split decision which many thought that he had won.

The recent fight with Jones Jr was appalling though and Popkin's ridiculous behaviour dropped him right out of my top fighters list.

Do it! With that I will give the opinion that slappy Joe must be a total smackhead to pull that **** in the middle of a pro-fight... actually come to think of it...

and yet he was the champ and the best at 168 for years and undefeated and beat Hopkins and Jones to finish out his career.

Saying Calzaghe wasn't that fast is like saying Tyson didn't hit that hard.

You can SEE it with your own eyes in his fights. Everyone picks out the times he would just throw a flurry of windmill slaps, but that's not what's important. Calzaghe was a fast combination puncher when he was trying to hurt you---straight punches right down the middle, then body shots, then back up to the head. He was extremely fast in that respect. Also, he had excellent one-punch speed--he could jump in and touch you with a shot before you had any time to react.

You can hate on his style or his race all you want, but don't go trying to rewrite history by denying facts that are plainly visible to any neutral observer.

Quite frankly, neither fighter looked particularly impressive that night. Joe C certainly didn't impress, but Hopkins was hardly the portrait of pugilisitc beauty that night.

Calz was a very good fighter and a worthy champ. Let sleeping dogs lie.

I think this is fair. I have been critical of Calzaghe, and find his fighting style annoying, but he was successful with it.

Those are the fighters signiture punches, Calzaghe is known for the slap just like Mayweather has recognition for the check hook. He had a good left hook before his hands messed up but even then he aaccompanied that with slaps.

Calzaghe had decent hand speed not like Meldrick Taylor or SRL at SMW.
