As far as being a ducker goes, Calzaghe would be Ray Robinson and Mayweather would be Charlie Zelenoff. They're leagues apart where it comes to taking soft fights to protect that 0, which is why Mayweather is already a ring legend and Calzaghe will always be a **** :deal

****ing staggering hypocricy isn't it, especially when you consider Pavlik twice beat the man that twice beat the man that Calzaghe got dumped on his arse by

Roy Jones deserves his shot at calzaghe. I dont mind about his last 5 fights so much, Joe has given him a wildcard. He has paid his dues in the past and been a great champ. I wouldnt write off Roy's chances at a win so readily, I think he has a shot.

I'd still like him to face a prime boxer who is not a plodder (Lacy) or a robot (Kessler). that said, he cleaned out 168, and deserves credit for that, even though the division is not exactly the best in boxing.

But he's still got a ways to go if he wants to be remembered alongside the greats.

It was a balance thing, finished off with a shove.

Who was the aggressor for the balance of the round ?

I personally think he's just pushing up the price of his fight after Jones Jr.. He'll fight again.

is it so bad that Joe retires? I mean come on he has established himself as the best super middleweight, he has fought the younger guys like Kessler Lacy fought the older Vet in Hopkins and Eubank, is moving on the legand though past his prime Rjj for a big payday and calling it a career what is so wrong with that.
He has acheived pretty much all there is, what gets me is how you can all excuse mayweather for hanging them up yet other fighters just dont get that same respect.
    its pathetic

PS, as much as I hate to say this.

Joe will retire knowing that the boxing world now centres itself in Europe, not America and that the big fights (outside of Oscar De La Hoya) are now all European.

He was a part of that, due to his dominance as a champion during the time that the heavies, cruisers and supermids were dominated by Euro fighters and when Light Heavy and Middleweight were heavily contested by Euro fighters.

    160lbs north = Euro Domination.

Joe was a part of that.

Calzaghe is only the ring champ at those 2 weights because he played a waiting game for years. Fact is he wasted the best years of his career fighting WBO nobodies.

I haven't read much of this thread but I'm guessing (and this has almost certainly been said already) that Calzaghe has a wait and see attitude about his future. He looked tired in a way that he has never done when he fought Hopkins. He won't want to bow out without fighting in Cardiff in a swansong match aginst an opponent that his derider's think he cannnot beat in his swansong, but, at the same time, he will need to convince himself that the dud performance against Hopkins wasn't age catching up with him. If he beats RJJ convincingly and feels comfortable, there is no way he will turn down Pavlik in Cardiff in front of his own crowd. I think that the Hopkins fight spooked him big time. Hopkins has away of doing that to fighters. If he has 80% of his faculties in place he will beat Pavlik and he knows it; and so do you......probably.
