I wasn't a fan of it either, hell im not even a fan of Ward. Still he got away with it and made it look easier than Joe did. Also there was only a 2 year gap between the Calzaghe and the Ward fight for Kessler where he was 28 and 30 respectively. It does illustrate how versatile Ward is though, he can be extremely dirty if he has to be or very clean like vs Froch.
Yeah, and guys like Calzaghe to. Oh, wait ... I think Calzaghe would match up well to Ward. With Wards style outworking him is really the only chance there is, and thats what Calzaghe made a career of. And Calzaghe showed against Hopkins that while he is no inside fighter he keeps punching as the opponent closes in on him, and as he moves out. Wards spoiling would not be as effective as against stiffs like Kessler and Froch.
IMO Calzaghes and Wards win over Kessler are roughly equal. Ward dominated more, but there was too much shady stuff going on. I think he would have risked to get pennalized outside Oakland. Calzaghe actually used boxing, and the version of Kessler he fought was propably slightly more peak. I agree Ward is very skilled. It remains to be seen if he will keep challenge himself.
Problem with that theory is that Ward can keepup with that kind of volume while not matching it perse. But he is a lot more accurate and cleaner with his punches where Joe is extremely ugly. He threw 2x+ as many punches vs Hopkins and still barely scraped by, i would be shocked if he manages to throw 20 to 30% more than Ward which would be way harder for him to get that decision. I know from your post history though that you are a big fan of volume punchers with ineffective aggression so we could probably debate this forever to no avail. You think Joe matchesup well with Ward, i think it would be a terrible matchup for him. Can leave it at that. The only factor that makes me not completely sure that Ward kills him is that i need to see Ward vs a southpaw or 2 ... some fighters are just useless vs one. If he deals well vs a southpaw stance then im about 95% sure he would beat Calzaghe. Virgill is also a way superior trainer to Enzo so im sure when it comes to gameplans it would be a big boost for Ward.
Going out to dinner so going to leave the conversation at this point, i really dont care enough about Calzaghe. Personally he was 1 of the most ugliest styles ive ever had the misfortune to see in my lifetime so im glad hes gone. If you some of you think he would beat Ward so be it. Maybe he would but well never know.
Where is the idea that Calslappy did not beat Hopkins coming from? he owned him!!!! He even humped him infromt of millions of people. Ineffective aggression still score more than just playing defense and faking low blows.
That is irrelevant, since they both won, it's not likie Calzaghe had any trouble with Kessler. Yes, he did fake them. Calzaghe was exahusting Hopkins and outworking him which is a perfectly valid strategy. Are you for real? Yeah, who cares if Hopkins cheated to avoid gassing and getting whooped, as long as it's in favour of the fighter you like CHEATING is all good :nut It has to do with everyone seeing things the way they want to see them, until reality slaps them in the face. Ward's body of work is superior to Calzaghe based on what? Froch? :rofl What factoid do I have to recover from? The fact that you agreed with me that Hopkins is better than anything in Ward's resume. Yeah, you sure showed me :!:
Just because Hopkins got a flash knockdown in round one these americans are hanging for dear life on to that to question Calzaghes superiority over the super-middleweight divison, the yanks are so gutted about the fact that he came to america and bashed up hopkins and roy jones your too best super-middles/light-heavys of all time and beat your future mike tyson in jeff lacey so bad that he was never the same again. People are forgetting he beat Chris Eubank at 24 years of age to begin his marvelous run and ended it with a win over Roy Jones great names throughout his resume, Oh not to forget he beats your other future all time greats Mitchell and Sheika LOL
The British are gonna bring up Calzaghe forever. He's their Rocky Marciano. Ward is the truth today period. His resume is already comparable and he's only 28.
Calzaghe barely scraped past Robin Reid and an old Hopkins(who has shown he can be outhustled by busier fighters ala Jermaine Taylor). Yet his fans think he's going to beat Ward comfortably lol?
