The question is....would he have fought Ward at his prime?

You got it all backwards, dude. Ward have ducked Bute and both Dirrell brothers already. Would he have dared to face Joe?

Ward got exposed a bit by Froch. Froch is very slow with a low workrate yet had Ward looking the more tired at the end and losing the last round.
Froch won around 4 rounds and he is very slow compared to Calzaghe with a much lower workrate.
Ward was nearly beaten by Calzaghe victim Bika.

    Calzaghe clearly beats Ward.

    Clearly

Why wouldnt he? He faced every other top SMW that was willing to meet him. Who at SMW didnt he fight? Who did he duck?

Ward has already shown that he doesnt want to fight Bute and I have read that he isnt eager to fight Andre Dirrell either. Ward hasnt fought outside of America and stayed at home throughout the S6

Dude I have been down this road with you so many dame times....it's a complete waste of time. I know you believe that Calzaghe fought the absolute best. And there is no way that you will ever look at this objectively.

    I'll clarify myself.

Calzaghe rarely ducked opponents. The only thing you can hold against him is that he did not go after Jones very activly when he was prime. He tried to get it on with a younger version of Hopkins.

Ward has already ducked three times:

He and Andre Dirrell ducked each other during Super Six.

He demanded of Bute to prove himself against a top dog, instead of making the fight straight away.

He give up his belt so he wont have to fight his mandatory Anthony Dirrell.

Point: Perhaps Ward would kick Calzaghes ass, but there is no saying Ward would be prepared to take the fight.

And you believe a fight with the Dirrell brothers is a duck?

Cant tell for sure, I aint no mindreader. Perhaps Ward dont wanna fight his mates. But Ward said after Dirrell pulled out Super Six that fighting him would have been the toughest test of his career.

My point is that you assume Calzaghe is a ducker and Ward aint. It's not that easy. Ward migth show himself to be a very well managed fighter. There is a bit of writing on the wall already.

hang on, Ward has not refused to fight Bute.

If Bute had entered the SS tournie, he would have fought him. Bute opted out.

Wy would you deny that at some point soon, Andre will meet Bute, when he has already met everyone else? All the evidence suggests that Andre will accept a fight with Bute at some point.

    this.:deal

comeback? But Andre isnt fortysomething yet!

tbh, Joe Calzaghe did a good job for the level he was at - a minor world title holder.

    ...say what?

Ward basically told the media that Bute needed to "beat somebody" before he could earn a shot, and went back on his statement saying he's disappointed they couldn't make the fight. Considering no offer whatsoever was sent to Team Bute after they said they would fight Ward in Oakland if necessary, and considering Goossen actually told Bedard "I want an easier homecoming fight for Andre", it would be dumb to suggest Ward wanted the Bute fight. Now he's tweeting left right and center that he wants the winner... of course, if Bute isn't "worthy" of a shot, who is he gonna fight?!??

Bute didn't opt out of the S6, he wasn't invited and was an HBO fighter at the time, Ring #2 vs Ring #5 in the Andrade rematch. But that's common knowledge.

my point is, bro, err, that Andre is 28 and has only been champ for a year.

Hes hadly ducking anyeon when hes only been on the scene for a short time.

If you can give Joe Calzaghe over a decade before fighting anyone decent, I am sure you can give Andre Ward a year more or so particulalry since hes just beat the last crop of decents already.
