its an idiot thing to compare lacey to tyson.

Tyson was MUCH faster and more accurate than lacey, with a great defence. Lacey was ****.

its also an idiot thing to crow about beating up fortysomethings.

    good post there, then.

They fought in different eras. Are you blaming Calzaghe for not fighting the Beyers, Mundines and Greens of the early 2000's SMW crop?

My point was, Ward is a hypocrite for saying the Bute fight was the #1 fight to make for the S6 champ before he won the tourney, then talking his way out of it blatantly deferring to Froch during the post-fight conference. Now he's unhappy Froch is actually fighting Bute?! Gimme a ****in break.

Nope. Unlike Slappy Joe, Andre Ward holds a real title, has beaten real opponents, and has a real shot of unifying at 168 when he exposes Slappy's successor in hunting down old broken opponents, Mr Lucian Bute.

if you really think Andre wont fight Bute in the next few years then you have a point.

If he does fight him soon then you are eating **** on your point for the rest of your life.

    Lets see what happens.

As for Calzaghe, he chose to wait ten years before fighting anyone, but as I said earlier, I think thats actualy not such a bad thing considering that he was only a minor or lesser SMW title holder for this entire career bar one fight.

Care to point out where I said Ward wouldn't fight Bute? :huh

As mentioned in my first post in this thread, Ward is now looking to fight the winner of Froch-Bute. That doesn't void my point that he's been a hypocrite for the past 4 months.

I'm saying he wasn't interested when it mattered i.e. when Bute was looking for a fight.

I'm not saying he won't take the fight, ever. He's a hypocrite for contradicting his own statement.. twice.

You award boxers who fight like girls? Hopkins was landing his straight right on Calslappys chin all night. Hopkins had great placement and it scored him a knockdown in the first.

I'm not getting well your point here: has actually Ward give up one of his belts or these are at present only rumors?! (moreover, Ward said on his twitter some months ago not to believe these rumors since he's on a mission to get 'em all -- in all fairness, it's worth mentioning that he didn't specify the division in which he should eventually collect all the belts :hey ).

So let's get to the point (that is: what Calzaghe says 'bout him hypothetically beating Ward). He might have some boxing arguments, Ward might have also some cards to play, but the fact is this fight exists for now only in our minds and Calzaghe is still a retired older fighter. He earned the right to express a worthy opinion about today fighters (including Ward, of course) but it is still odd to put himself in the same equation since he's no longer active. The allegations like "Were we in the same ring, I would trash fighter X" are decent if somehow substantiated -- say by a comeback from retirement and a fight proposal -- otherwise they're talks of nothing.
On another note, comparing resumes and behaviors at this point would tell little about the outcome of a hypothetical (and obviously impossible) fight between Ward and a prime Calzaghe on an entirely neutral venue with perfectly unbiased judges. We can only speculate about it, based on the actual skills and fighting styles, knowing there will never be a definitely ultimate answer. Only if Calzaghe would return in the ring for a fight with Ward and if he would turn out to be highly competitive against a much younger opponent in his prime, one could build a decently argued case about what would have done the younger version of Calzaghe.

I asked you who you felt Calzaghe ducked and you couldnt reply.
We have been down the road of you making statements where I show you that you are wrong, yet you still, after being proven incorrect like to repeat the same rubbish

Calzaghe did go after Jones as well as Hopkins

Calzaghe at 28 had beaten Eubank who was better than Kessler or Froch, Reid who I would argue was better than Froch, Woodhall who I would argue was better than Froch. Both Reid and Woodhall have better resumes than Froch, Calzaghe had also beat then top 10 rated SMW Sheika coming off a win over G Johnson, Starie who had beaten undefeated C Woods, and M Veit who would go on to be a SMW world champ after that defeat.
Thats more than what Ward has done

Right, a 40 year old Calzaghe is going to come back :rofl

I suppose you also support Lennox Lewis coming back then since he's been talking **** about the Klitschkos lately?

He can't. His jealousy of Ward being the big dog now is pretty funny. He is the past. Ward is the present and the future. All he can do is say things like he would beat him. They mean nothing.
