Funny how British fans use Calzaghe to soften the blow of Collins crushing Benn and Eubank - twice each! Fact is Steve crushed every UK boxer he faced.
No actually no one really gives a sh*t, you are the one who incessantly brings it up with your Irish nationalism trolling.
no. joe was an unknown with no pedigree and fighting for a vacant unwanted title, tripling the reason for collins showing no interest in a man he must have felt he could easily paste for absolutely no gain. collins had no history of ducking people. it is in fact calzaghe who has a long history of ducking, and its way more likely he and wassen engineered this "duck" as a way of getting as soft as possible an opponent. collins DID show interest in facing him once he had established a few wins, but he was forced to retire with a brain injury scare - so this rules out any accusation of duck from previous. but ys it is true that collins beat every brit he faced, while joe it appears from his resume steered well clear of any prominent irish boys - thus the REVERSE of what calzaghe supporters have claimed is truer than what they want to claim.
No, Joe was an up-and-coming fighter who had been an ABA champion at several different weights who had been the British Super Middleweight Champion and was the mandatory defence for Collins WBO World Title. The only reason Calzaghe was fighting for a "vacant unwanted title" was because Collins dumped the belt 12 days before the fight because he claimed he couldn't motivate himself to fight anyone other than Roy Jones Jr, forcing the WBO to ask Eubank to step in at short notice. It doesn't reflect well on Collins at all that he pulled out of a mandatory defense so close to the date of the fight, and the fact that man he decided wasn't worth his time to fight went one to become arguably the greatest Super Middleweight of all time equally does not reflect well on Collins' decision to back out.
Have you seen the SMW Gloves are Off on Sky Sports with Collins, Eubank, Joned Jr, Woodhall and maybe one other (can't remember). Because Eubank Sr quizzed Collins hard on why he never faced Calzaghe and he changed his story during the episode. First he said Calzaghe had no profile and that's why he didn't want the fight and then minutes later he claimed he had an injury and that's why it never happened. He was flapping like a wounded duck under Eubank's masterful interrogation.
I hadn't even opened the thread yet and I already knew that Herol had posted. It's like he has some sort of notification system on his phone that alerts him when a Calzaghe thread is made. Sad really.
