The fact that he was scheduled to fight in September 1997 cannot have come as a surprise as it was part of his contract with Warren. His only argument against this was that the contract gave him the option to turn it down.

no no collins has explicitly said that a september fight was optional to him, not mandatory nor necessary, nor was he informed of it being set in stone.

Collins said he believed the contract stipulated the fight in September was optional. Warren believed otherwise. The reason Collins walked out of the initial press conferance like a diva was because of this dispute.

In the end it was all irrelevant because Calzaghe was the WBO mandatory and the WBO sanctioned the fight, and Collins was obligated to fight his mandatories so he had to take the fight or be stripped.

 

Never seen him fight, but if he is anywhere nearly as good as his father, he will become a star...........
