I get pretty pissed off when people moan about Calzaghe's record. Was it the greatest? No. But he fought the best available to him. Jr was weight jumping so we can't really say anything about that. He fought Hopinks (yes late, but look at what he has done since), Kessler, Lacy (massive favourite, Eubank, Reid, Woodhouse. I mean it's far from Sub-standard if you ask me.

If he was American, I honest believe history would remember him different. In his prime, he beats any current SMW without a doubt

Calzaghe beats every current top super-middle.... quite easily..please dont use his ****ing punching technique as a reason why he was a bad fighter...we've heard all that before..in fact that was one of the reasons Lacy was the heavy favourite, Calzaghe fights like a girl, Lacy is a big strong black man who throws REAL punches...

EASILY beats any current supermiddle.. and I repeat I picked Floyd in this poll

Generally you find Calzaghe and Floyd fans are fans of both fighters.

Funny that, when someone is so skillful, defeats all of their opponents and contrary to Pacquaio belief (not popular belief) - don't just face cans.

Calzaghe has often stated he loves Floyd Mayweather Jr's style in the ring and Floyd Mayweather Jr has often returned the compliment.

So Joe's top tier victories are against the following fighters -- Jeff Lacy, Bernard Hopkins, Mikkel Kessler, Chris Eubank, Robin Reid, and Richie Woodhall? That doesn't actually sound all that disappointing on paper, but when you consider what versions of each fighter he fought, it gets a little more complicated. Eubank was at the tail end of his career. Calzaghe would tell you the same thing. Likewise, Hopkins was past his best, and Jeff Lacy was a 21-0 hype job with no standout victories. These are his top tier victories.

You're satisfied with those list of names?

Yeah Hopkins has looked ****ing ABYSMAL since Calzaghe beat him... and that punch that sent Eubank flying halfway across the ring in the first round...what a pathetic slap that was. Reid at least beat Ottke...in every fair mans mind. Woodhall? nah

Whats wrong the version of Robin Reid or Mikkel Kessler that Calzaghe fought?.. he beat a better version of Kessler than the one who beat Froch... You know, he beat the undefeated Kessler who held the two other belts required for Calzaghe to unify the division..which he did after spanking Kessler.

Calzaghe is given a tough fight by Mikkel Kessler, and yet the Welshman would easily defeat Andre Ward? He'd brush the likes of Bute and Dirrell aside without a problem? This fails to compute. Why would a fighter who struggled against the likes of Reid, Kessler, and Hopkins "easily" beat the current crop of 168lbs fighters? :think

As a side note, I haven't said that Joe Calzaghe was a bad fighter. I said that his win column was underwhelming and that I personally found his fighting style to be clown shoes. Displeasing on the eye. You shouldn't get so emotional.

    In the Judah build up

NatiBoxer: What did you think about the Jeff Lacy fight.Do you think extra muscular hurt him as a boxer. Floyd

FLOYD_MAYWEATHER: It was a beautiful performance by Calzaghe, who I think has some serious skills. Not to take anything away from Lacy, but Calzaghe ain't nothing but the truth.

    I was impressed

    ----

And in the Hatton build up

Mayweather went on to add: "Before I leave I want to beat the best British fighter out there, or one of them. Calzaghe's the best British fighter period - probably one of the best fighters I've ever seen worldwide.

    -----

Calzaghe is one of the few fighters that Floyd never really had a bad word for to be honest. Even though Calzaghe during the Hatton fight came out and rubbished Floyd for being a trash talker and disrespectful

Uh he had a tough fight for 6 rounds, then took over and destroyed Kessler... Who the **** has Bute or Dirrell beat to prove he could beat the once unified Supermiddleweight champion...?

You think ****ing Dirrell could beat Calzaghe? Could Dirrell or Ward beat Hopkins? answer honestly.

Again, I didn't say that Hopkins was done at world level. I said that he was past his best days, but he was still a credible opponent. Calm down. Honestly.

There is nothing wrong with Mikkel Kessler and Robin Reid. They are very good victories. What I think Joe Calzaghe is missing are those great victories. The eye-catching names that some of the fighters he is often mentioned alongside do have on their record.
