Why are they using the "BHOP is old" excuse all of a sudden? yesterday, most favored HOPs to win this. And when the opposite happened, they discredit the win??! Amazing!

Quite right Hopkins looked just like he always does.
Joe C. is just the best.

Joe Calzaghe needs to beat one more recognize fighter to become p4p no.1, but does he have to beat a p4p fighter?

Joe Calzage beating Roy Jones, Jermaine Taylor or Chad Dawson would give him the chance to become a p4p no.1.

Of course defeating another p4p fighter such as Pavlik would guarantee him a spot at no.1

Joe Calzaghe would have earn his spot at no.1 if you remove the knockdown in the first round. Joe Calzaghe dominated the next 11 rounds. The score should have not been a split-decision. Bernard Hopkins fought well and landed crisp punches, but not enough to win rounds.

BHops head(literally) and clinches was what kept him the fight until Joe figured him out. Not his counterpunching.

His counterpunching is what put Joe on his ass early, and had him throwing about 50 punches for the first 4 rounds or so. I guess that was a "lucky" punch though right.

In a word, NO. Stays where he is at 3 or 4? (I hate P4P rankings).

That was a good counterpunch and he had some good right hands. But that wasnt what was troubling Joe though, watch the fight, everytime Joe comes close to Hopkins to try throw flurries, he cant, why...because Hopkins clinches. Hopkins got the better off Joe from a distance, Calzaghe needed to get near to slap. Straight punches beats the slaps from a distance however everytime he got near BHop clinched.

Everytime Hopkins throws a right hand, its not just the right hand joe has to worry about, its the head too that lunges in with it. Roach was asking Bernard to throw left hook after right hand, he never, simply because Hopkins lunges too much forward with his head and out of position to throw his left hook after. After the 6th Bernard clinched alot less and joe figured out his head, Joe then had an easy time when he was actually allowed to box in there instead of wrestle.

Counterpunching was what JMM did to Pac. That was beautiful, masterful combinations, no dirtyness, just pure skill. Hopkins idea of counterpunching is lunging in with his head then proceeding to hug joe whilst hitting him on the back of the head.

Sounds like you have an agenda. Historically we had the better fighters but things seem to be changing, and I for one am glad for that. I thought the refereeing was disgusting last night, and smacked of home bias. Boxing is about fighters, not nations, and while I dislike all these tribal English fans with their flags, I think the improvement in global fighters is good for the sport. If we get perceived as biased we're gonna lose credibility. That ref should never be in a ring again. His style of referreeing favoured PBF against Hatton, and thats the kind of refereeing I like - stop the holding. If he had done that last night we would have watched a good fight, and on the balance of probabilities BHOP would have been knocked out R6-9 because Calzaghe could have thrown extended combinations.
