Joe Calzaghe: Pavlik is full of bulls***

I don't know how the question of Calzaghe being a ****ing liar can even be debated.

I have posted a direct verbatim quotation with page number several times from Calzaghe's autobiography "No Ordinary Joe" written in 2007, where Joe said he didn't fancy a fight with Tarver or Johnson because all they had done was strike lucky by fighting a 'shot' Roy Jones. He uses the word 'shot' to describe what Jones was FOUR YEARS ago.

Changed his ****ing tune hasn't he? Wonder why...

Fighting with words instead of fists.

Sad Joe, just sad. Just shut your trap. You're making a fool out of yourself.

Fine, he's not a coward. He's a liar and punk for uneccesarily trashing Pavlik like he's done. He's also continued to take shots at Hopkins even though that fight is over. I doubt he will ever fight Pavlik.

compared to quotes made hundreds of times by fighters over the years i'd say his comments are fairly tame. didn't pavliks trainer give joe a load of **** before the lockett fight ( i use the term loosely )?
    its boxing.
usually when fighters talk like this it means there is a fight in the offing so all you joe calzaghe haters will get your chance to see him exposed for the fraud/slapper/coward that you think he is.

If he was acutally fighting Pavlik I would agree with you. However, he's not. He's fighting Jones. A guy that he admitts is shot. And I thought Calzaghe said Pavlik didn't call him out until after the Jones fight was signed. What did Pavlik's trainer say before the Lockett fight?

The only things I recall Pavlik saying were that he'd rather fight Enzo Calzaghe because he's sick of Enzo criticizing him, and that he doesn't think Enzo will let Joe fight him because of Pavlik's demolition of Lockett.

JACK LOWE: We are giving this guy an opportunity of a lifetime. After “Slappy Joe” came over here and slapped he the hell out of Hopkins like he did all of the sudden his confidence grew and began running his mouth. It got Kelly going and he looked so good the other day that I wish the fight were this weekend. I have said before that he is getting better and better and I don’t know if we’ve seen the best yet. Someone is going to go backwards and I can’t see Lockett pushing Kelly backwards. He is going to have to adjust to what we are going to do.

I don't know how to respond to this except where I get it from was being around these and other message boards 12-18 months ago. And Calzaghe himself saying the fight didn't appeal doesn't mean there was not a "campaign" amonst the fans for the bout to happen, hell the campaign was most likely in part a result of this statement.

Erm, doesn't this prove the opposite of what you've been talking about??? This is NOT an example of Pavlik saying anything about Calzaghe.

its an example of how boxing works, calzaghe is being accused on here of being disrespectful, here pavliks trainer is being very disrespectful of calzaghe
i never said pavlik did anything, i said his trainer did.

You do know that Lowe was making reference to Calzaghe calling Pavlik out? All of a sudden, after the Lockett fight, Calzaghe changed his tune.

There was no widespread campaign, simple as that. There were very probably a few biased fans who would express their hate of Calzaghe in any way, and said this at the time. But that is the case about every fighter and every fight in history. Look through this forum and you'll see guys saying Margarito is ducking Williams (because they hate Margo), or Pac is scared of Marquez (coz they hate Pac), or Klitschko is avoiding Haye (coz they love Haye). None of this equates to a widespread belief. If you think your point was worth making to a couple of idiots that said something irrational ages ago and were proven wrong ages ago when Calzaghe did fight Lacy and Kessler then fair enough, but you should stipulate that otherwise it looks like a general statement, which is wrong.

Yeah, that makes sense. Pavlik's trainer calls him a slapper(which he is) and Calzaghe responds by trashing Pavlik. Pavlik has said nothing bad about Joe. He's had nothing but positive things to say about him.

look we could go on about this all day .
at the end of the day you, i or even the prophet pacfan are not close enough to the workings of the sport to know how close they've come to fighting, or who called who out, or if they'll ever fight at all. i personnally think some posters on here have got such an axe to grind with calzaghe they'll only beleive or hear what they want to.
my own feeling is they will get it on next year .
