Joe Calzaghe: Pavlik is full of bulls***

I have definitely noticed Calzaghe and his fans (a) trashing opponents BEFORE Joe faces them, then (b) talking about those same opponents in laudatory tones AFTER Joe beats them. Calzaghe fans talk about the unproven Kessler who was thoroughly outboxed by their man as some sort of demigod. I know I've heard TFFP say Kessler will become a legend. This is very transparent.

i don't hear that many people trashing pavlik on here. most people realise he's a very dangerous fighter.
calzaghe gets far far far more ****, off you included.

But Pavlik isn't one of his opponents? :patsch

I give the guy **** for three reasons:

    - his resume is weak. He wasted his talent by fighting mostly mediocre opposition 1997-2006.

    - he is a liar. Said in his autobio that Jones was shot in '04. He's fighting him in '08. I do not respect that, in fact I deplore it. :-(

    - I adore arguing with his fans on this forum. They are the most delusional bunch of characters I have ever encountered. Greatest Fighter Of The Last 25 Years?!

For these reasons, I believe the '****' is thoroughly well-deserved and will continue. Never do I express hate, never do I make any statements I cannot back up with reasoning and evidence.

However, I can show you posts of mine talking about his ability alone. And you would see a completely different picture.

you were making comments about calzaghe fans slagging off his potential opponents , thats what i was refering to.and pavlik is a potential opponent. in my opinion he will fight him.
as i have told you in the past, i in no way think he is anywhere close to being the best in the last 25 years,i just respect the guy and his acheivements. i just don't get the level of abuse he gets.
    de ja vous.

Well it really depends what you call a "campaign". What I was getting at was simple and has somehow been lost in translation here. You have a number of people on this thread alone coming out with comments that Calzaghe is a coward, afraid of Pavlik, knows Pavlik would beat him etc... etc... Maybe not a majority of the board but a substantial number. My individual knowledge of each poster does not go deep enough to know whether they are all haters, biased individuals etc... But there are a fair few of them.

My point was that there were very similar threads around prior to the Lacy fight. There were very similar threads prior to the Kessler fight which were playing down Lacy and pushing Kessler as the REAL threat. Now it's Pavlik. If Calzaghe does fight and beat Pavlik, there will probably be very similar threads saying Pavlik was never anything anyway and Calzaghe needs to fight Chad Dawson to establish his legacy. Bottom line, law of averages if a fighter in his mid 30s takes on undefeated up-and-comers enough times, by law of averages he's going to lose sooner or later. At which point no doubt he will be jumped all over as "exposed" in spite of all his previous accomplishments.

My point is basically that there's always going to be SOMEONE the guy at the top gets accused of avoiding. If he retires on top, he will have retired to avoid the latest next big thing. But, of course, this guy is really the next big thing, the last one was a never-was.

I mean Gary Lockett FFS. Does anyone here seriously think Joe Calzaghe wasn't aware privately that Pavlik was going to demolish him???

Pavlik is not an opponent of Joe's therefore his fans and him cannot criticize him in the build-up to the fight then acclaim him after, as the build-up to the fight is not happening. I was referring to Calzaghe saying Kessler was 'unproven', then he and his fans going mental over how good he is AFTER he was well beaten. It makes no sense, but is quite a transparent tactic.

But these threads go on about every fighter and every fight? Your point has no value, this is not particular to Joe Calzaghe at all. Have a look through the forum and see for yourself (there was a thread saying Mayweather was scared of BALDOMIR). The reason Calzaghe maybe gets a bit extra stick as people resent a guy with a poor resume being rated so highly. Had he chased the big fights and got them, then he would be thought of more favourably whether he won or lost them. There is little honour in protecting a zero and beating up 'shot' fighters for money when there were better challenges available.

Regardless that "extra stick" is not valid. IMO Joe was more scared of Kessler (& I doubt he was very scared of him) than he is of Pavlik.

These threads ARE written about every fighter. The Calzaghe Persecution Complex is a myth. People resent him being rated so highly because he has a weak resume - that is not persecution as it is legitimate. If you disagree, fine.

This is the reason I said he gets a bit extra stick. What does that have to do with whether he was scared of Kessler or Pavlik or both of them or neither? You are arguing against a point I didn't make.
