I think a young Roy would stop him, but the knock down Joe suffered when they fought for real isn't a big issue. Joe was ducking low, Roy caught him with a forearm and Joe lost his balance and fell over. He wasn't hurt.

Specificly question Joes heart seems a bit off :huh When Joe stepped inside the ring he always gave it his all. In the breakdown I've made, I make the assumption that Joe gives Roy a run for his money until he gets severly hurt and understands what he is up against.

this is just the thing, WHEN he stepped in the ring...but he lacked the heart to step up and kept it barely above eurobum for nearly a decade. that prevented him stepping into the ring in the way we would have liked to see a champ do so.

I think the win for Jones against Toney was very good and I do consider it better than the Ruiz win.

Closer fight going either way I have a problem thinking of so many intangibles whether Jones eeking a close decision by pot shotting or Toney finding that chin and then who knows.

I see it as a tale of 2 Toneys
Complete war, if it were below 168 say 160 Toney all day he was something at 160. At 168 Calzaghe can ( doesn't mean he will) squeeze a split decision. I can't say P4P Toney was such a beast while Calzaghe spent his prime not fighting the best but at the end of his prime he was beating guys that put him at the top level. I think Toney showed what he can do at his peak and Calzaghe didn't.

    I'm not questioning his heart.

Any fighter who steps through the ropes has a lot of heart, and they deserve an enormous amount of respect.

    I'm questioning his will.

I think Joe would have known exactly what he'd have been up against before he stepped in the ring against him.

Psychology plays a huge part in the outcome of a fight.

Toney actually showed some pretty quick reflexes vs. Jones.. He ducked and slipped some lighting fast shots...

I saw no zombie. He was a professional fighter in his mid twenties, I really don't care much about his weight excuses..

Roy beat him clear enough, he was all wrong for Toney. He had Toney completely confused at times.

I respect your opinion, but that doesn't make sense to me.

You've said that Toney was completely drained etc.

So surely the Ruiz win had to have been better, all things considered?

I still see a drained Toney as being a better fighter than Ruiz . A drained Toney performed better against a peak jones than Ruiz did with Jones at HW. I don't consider HW Jones at his peak.

You must have foot and mouth disease, cos every time you open your mouth you put both feet in it.

Lets have a look at this so called great era at " the time " Jones fought the useless Ruiz March 2003.

Lennox, old, out of shape, retirement on his mind, preparing to fight Johnson, gets Vitali, calls it a day within a year.

Vitali. See above, loses to said old, out of shape, on his way to retiring, Lennox.

Vlad. Getting KTFO in 2 by Sanders.

Byrd. Points win over the world renowned Oquendo.:roll:

Tua. Having fought the earth shattering Russell Chasteen in November 2002, fights Rahman to a draw in March 2003, then turns it in for 2 years.

Sanders. See Wlad above, this after having fought the highly dangerous Otis Tisdale in Nov 2002, and going on to get stopped by Vitali in his next fight after March 2003.

Yeah, so all in all 2003 was a vintage year for the fighters you mentioned.:rofl:rofl:roll:

It would have been an intriguing clash of styles.

But I think that because James was so disrespectful, he could have lured Joe into a fight, instead of a boxing match. If that had've happened, that would have played into James's hands.
