Exactly his work rate was one thing but his technique was another ..I mean I can't imagine any boxer not having hand issues when they weren't turning over their punches ..Hell I'm surprised he didn't have wrists issues as well .

Adaptability. The way he would change tactics in mid fight and dominate is unreal.

The part that amazes me is some of you speak like Joe was an ATG Like he was something special :rofl Heck he was incapable of throwing a LEGITIMATE SCORING PUNCH!!!!! He slapped like a girl which is an illegal blow in boxing officially. No way in hades he LEGITIMATELY beat Bernard Hopkins that was disgusting. The way he ended his career spoke volumes about him. He retired rather than rematch Hopkins at home in Wales. That could have been a way of thanking fans for their support over the years ending the controversy. Instead Joe shot his fans the finger and retired knowing Hopkins would have kicked his ass all up & down the Rhondda Valley.
Alll they heard were stories of his coke sniffing , drunken binges & chasing Ho's dumping his long time G/F too
Sorry but Joe aint fit to carry Bernards jockstrap:hi::hi:

Calzaghe's workrate was important but it was hard to beat when combined with how he could adjust to his opponent.

    Another tit. :patsch

Calzaghe beat Hops fair and square, wasn't even close. No point in rematch.

However I much prefer Hops, he has a better career and risked more than Calzaghe.

OK you are entitled to your opinion BUT Please explain to me HOW Calzaghe won

1... Bernard put him on his ass
2... Calzaghe did not land 30 scoring punches all fight long. Most of them that landed were SLAPS < ILLEGAL blows> many missed or were blocked anyway
3... Calzaghe should have been warned about that blatant low slap & the disgusting attempt at ***ually assaulting Hopkins too but it was Joe Cortez officiating wasn't it

Nobody would have bought a second fight between them given how ugly and damned near unwatchable the first one was - that includes networks and promoters - so it would make no money at all and be a horrible specticle.

Given that Hopkins was incapable of keeping pace with Calzaghe then he would have spoilt most of the fight the second time round just as he did the first and this, like the first fight, would lead people to **** all over the fight should Calzaghe win and act as if Hopkins was wash-up has-been just because of his age - so it would do nothing at all for Calzaghe's legacy.

So you can write off the money factor due the unsellability of a second fight between them and the legacy factor due to Hopkins age being a conveniant excuse not to credit any win and the fact of the matter would be that a rematch with Hopkins had no appeal or benefit for Calzaghe whatsoever.

Dont get me wrong, Bernard produced the cleaner punches.

But he was seriously outworked and looking for a way out of there.

It was a miserable fight, unworthy of either.

But I suppose you had no problem with Cortez letting Hopkins hug and cling to Calzaghe all night long and get away with play-acting to buy himself a breather.

Spot on. Despite being mega hyped for that fight, and Calzaghe being one of the most exciting fighters of his era, Hopkins still managed to turn that into one of the most boring fights of the year not involving Wladimir

Lets hope same thing doesnt happen in the Kovalev fight

When you look at where they are today its easy to see which is superior

Bernard is taking on the most feared puncher today . He is almost 50 yrs old too. He is still kicking the asses of fighters young enough to be his kids. He is a bona fide ATG!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe left boxing under a cloud. Almost immediately the stories of cocaine abuse, alcohol abuse, the cruel dumping of his long time G/F the chasing of nasty ho's plus hunting & killing little innocent rabbits. He went completely off the rails it seems.

Calzaghe didn't want the rematch because he knew he got a gift decision & that if he faced Bernard again Nard would kick his cowardly ass up and down the Rhondda Valley Calzaghe aint fit to lick Nards boots

Hopkins is probably the most disciplined fighter of all time in regards to weight management and physical fitness, an all time great without any doubt, who has developed a style that has allowed him to compete at the highest level long after his physical prime years are even a distant memory.

The agenda of anyone who doubts that must be questioned.

Calzaghe retired as the Light Heavyweight King and a top 5 P4Per who was one of the biggest names in boxing. That he went off the rails after his retired doesn't put his decision to walk away "under a cloud"

Calzaghe didn't want a rematch because he'd decided before he fought Kessler in 2007 that he was going to retire after 2008 and fighting Hopkins a second time would do nothing for either his bank account or his legacy - fighting Jones, at least, was a decent payday to end on.

They had their fight and it stunk. Nobody other than the most die-hard Hopkins fanboys would have paid a penny let alone a dollar or a pound to sit through that dross a second time.
