    Thanks a lot.

I've read your posts again, and I've shown them to a friend who may join.

    You have great knowledge.

If you haven't checked it out already, go on to the classic forum. There's some great threads, with some great posters who have an enormous amount of knowledge.

There's guys on there that's much older than you, who actually saw fighters and famous fights from the 40's etc.

    Fascinating stuff.

    AnotherFan,

    You're way off the mark.

Roy fought his mandatories in the U.S. at LHW, and took the majority of the purse.

Joe was content to defend his SMW belt in Europe.

Joe didn't want to fight in the U.S.

He didn't want to fight at Roy's weight.

We also know that he wouldn't have been happy with only taking a tiny fraction of the purse, that guys like Frazier, Harmon and Kelly were happy to accept.

Joe said that because of the risk involved, he'd have wanted 'The Crown Jewels'

Which was fair enough. But the only problem was, that back in the early 00's, he was in no position to be asking for that against the worlds best fighter.

Because outside of Europe, he was relatively unknown.

    Do you understand?

    The fight was never viable.

The only way the fight could have happened, is if Joe had've eventually became a mandatory like Woods, taking only a fraction of the purse, or if he'd have promoted himself in the U.S. and had a 'Lacy type' performance that got people talking and interested in a fight.

    It's as simple as that.

    He wasn't a mandatory.

    He wanted big money.

There was no demand for the fight.

    Correct.

In 2001, Joe was fighting in a division that Roy had left 5 years earlier.

Roy was the unified LHW champion of the world.

So unless Roy had've been paid an awful lot of money, he wouldn't have gone back down in weight to fight for a lightly regarded belt, in a division that he'd left years ago.

Which meant, that for the fight to happen, it was Joe who had to make the concessions.

You can't expect the best fighter in the world to drop weight and come to you.

As great as Joe was, in 2001 he was relatively unknown and he hadn't beaten any great fighters, unless you count Eubank who was past his best.

It was Joe who had to go to the U.S. and fight at LHW to force the issue.

    But he wouldn't do that.

Because he wanted to continue his WBO reign at SMW.

Which was fine. That was his prerogative.

But the longer he did that, the less chance he had of a big money fight against Roy.

He could have done a hell of a lot more.

    Let's be real.

If you were fighting in Britain at SMW, and you desperately wanted to fight the best guy in the world, who fought in America at LHW, what would you do?

If you were that serious, you'd move up into the same division and fight in America.

I appreciate the predicament that he was in, but nobody could claim to have CHASED a guy, when they were in different countries and different divisions.

Making enquiries doesn't constitute as chasing someone.

But the point is, it's because of what Joe didn't do, as to why Roy didn't want to fight him.

Joe brought nothing to the table.

At least a mandatory meant that Roy got to keep his belts, and he was handsomely paid.

Joe brought no extra money, no title, and he wasn't a mandatory.

So unless any of that had changed, there was literally nothing to gain by fighting him.

Brief talks were held in 2001 and 2002.

In 2001, Roy decided to fight Gonzalez instead, and then afterwards, his advisors tried to make a Dariusz M fight with HBO.

In 2002, after Roy had fought Clinton Woods, Roy's other options were Tarver and Ruiz.

Like I say, the fight was never viable.

Bailey will tell you that if the fight had presented itself to Joe, he'd have taken it.

But because of the factors that I've mentioned, the fight never was going to present itself.

Fast forward to 2008, and everyone's circumstances had changed, and Roy wanted the fight.

Every fighter has fights like that.

    They were mostly mandatories.

You don't want me to pull Joe's record do you?

He was made to fight Peter Manfredo at almost 36, to gain some more U.S. exposure.

Joe was relatively unknown in the U.S.

Like you've mentioned, so were a lot of Roy's other opponents.

But the difference is, those guys were mandatories in Roy's weight class.

    Whereas Joe wasn't.

You have to fight your mandatories to keep the belts.

So even if the opposition was poor, and he took criticism for it, at least it was for a purpose.

He got to keep his belts, and he was paid well.

But that didn't apply with Joe.

Therefore, there was no point in fighting him back then.

    He had nothing to gain.

5 years? lol. Loudon will be on here in 50 years time hating on Calzaghe and sucking on Roid's nuts like a nympho who's just done a 20 year stretch in solitary. All the while lapping up the pats of congratulation on the back from the hordes of fellow Calzaghe haters and bigots, gullibly believing all their lies whilst he's blissfully oblivious to the fact that they don't even believe what they're saying.

I'm sure it's already been mentioned, but, to me, the crux of the matter is that no Jones didn't want to fight Calzaghe because Calzaghe had nothing to offer at the time when Calzaghe was "pursuing" him.

I believe Jones even said he had considered Calzaghe as an opponent early in his WBO reign, but dismissed the idea because of Calzaghe's career choices.

    Ha!

    Hilarious!

    I'll be 84 by then.

On a serious note though, I haven't hated on Joe on this thread.

I've just pulled him on his BS about chasing Roy that's all.

Just because Joe gets criticism from me and others, it doesn't mean everyone's hating on him.

Everything I've said on here, and the quotes of his that I've copied, are all true and can be backed up.

    So what are the lies?

    What is the hate?

What is the bigotry?(talk about hyperbole:lol:)

What is it that we don't believe we are saying?

That Calzaghe didn't want to fight Jones? Even though he said so himself, was he lying? Even though he didn't go the states to make waves or even fight in the same weightclass as Jones.

The overwhelming majority of fans, boxers, trainers and pundits think prime Jones was better than Calzaghe, that prime Jones would beat Calzaghe and that Roy Jones ranks much much higher in ATG terms.

This isn't lies, hate or bigotry, it's the consensus opinion of anyone who has any clue about boxing.

Your opinions are just that, opinions and are based on blind fanboyism and frivolous idol worship rather than logic, evidence and facts. Which is why your opinions cannot be taken seriously and are often fundamentally wrong.

17 American fighters tried. 17 failed. 12 by way of knockout.

    The laundry list:

    Frank Minton was murdered. KO1
    Robert Curry was crushed. TKO1
    Tyrone Jackson was javelined. TKO4
    Guy Staford was savaged. TKO4
    Anthony Brooks was battered. TKO2
    Pat Lawlor was lacarated. TKO2
    Taylor Huhges was harmed. KO1
    Omar Shieka was smashed TKO5
    Will Mcintyre was mauled. TKO4
    Charles Brewer was butchered. UD2
    Miguel Ángel-Jiménez was annihilated. UD12
    Tocker Purwell was pulverized. TKO2
    Byron Mitchell was mashed. TKO2
    Jeff Lacy was Lacyied™. UD12
Peter Manfredo Jr was mutilated. TKO3
    Bernard Hopkins was humped. SD12
Roy Jones Jr was jumbled. UD12

Wow. I know Pacquiao got called The Mexicutioner for a handful of wins over Mexicans, but this list is something else. I think I understand the hate toward him now from so many US posters on here. Nobody red, white and blue could save the day.

Look on the bright side though, if Joe would've hung around and took on fighters that was relevant as he retired, that list could be past 20 now and include the likes of Jermaine Taylor, Chad Dawson, Kelly Pavlik, Antonio Tarver, Andre Dirrell and Andre Ward.

Look at the Brittard holding onto Joe Calzaghe, a fighter who isn't even a top 80 ATG fighter and I LIKE Calzaghe a whole lot as a fighter.

Fact is: You should be nuthugging Bob Fitzsimmons who is far far far more accomplished than Calzaghe for your Britarded agenda.

Fact is: America dominates boxing, always have and always will.

SRR will always be the greatest. :smooch

Lol, no way in hell would the slapper beat Ward. The only way his handlers would even let him near Ward would be if Ward were 15 years older and had leg problems. And you know that Hopkins decision was horse ****. Callzaghe was more sheltered than Mayweather.
