According to Golden Boy CEO, Richard Schaefer, he is interested in coming back to fight Bernard Hopkins. Schaefer said he is going to England in the upcoming weeks to talk to Calzaghe about his future plans.:hey

 I like the way you've twisted Schaefer's words. He said the following:

Eh. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem if he opened with Hopkins as long as he follows it up with a better fight.

Not much of a "twist". Perhaps the OP should have said hopkins had been mentioned. At any rate, if he's coming back Hopkins might not be a bad starting point. As old as Hopkins is, I don't think it's fair to call him 'shot' as ugly as the hopkins/rjj fight apparently was, he still hasn't been convincingly beaten including the calzaghe fight and he appears still a legit lhw contender (even tho he won't face dawson)

yeah....see...my feeling is if joe does take hopkins again...it wont be in the us...itll be over in his place....because hell be able to step in the ring once and make enough money that he wont need to take a 2nd bout really....i hope im wrong...but im thinking hes going for one big home payday and back out...

Joe stay retired beating Bhop gains you nothing hell the first time you beat you dont get much credit for. If you lose everything you did in that amzing career means nothing to most boxing fans. 1 loss to an old Bhop 46 wins will disappear. Its really a lose lose

i agree...but joe gets the fight in a soccer stadium over in his backyard....and packs the place....one shot deal and he makes money that equals 2 or 3 big fights in the states....and hes gone again...no way hes losing a decision over there if hes able to outwork 'nard(which is a given)

Exactly. Everyone in the boxing game (including Calzaghe himself) knows he could have achieved more. Calzaghe feels the pain, and has slowly come to recognize his poor resume for suppsed ATG. Sadly, it's too late for him to do anything about it. In his final two fights he looked far from impressive, as he gets put on the canvas against by a ghost of Roy Jones, and narrowly escapes the jaws of defeat against a half a decade past prime Hopkins. Now 16 months of retirement and a bit of cocaine abuse, he really has no place back in the boxing world. Forget it Joe, stay retired
