Interesting interview by BBC with Joe Calzaghe after the Calzaghe-Hopkins fight. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7367197.stm I'd like to see him fight Pavlik at Super middle, be damn good fight I rekon. not too sure how strong Calzaghe is at Light Heavy.
Roy Jones Jr will make Joe realize that there's no reason for him to criticize Bernard on the aftermath of their fight... Roy is gonna do that rap **** and clowning around with Scooby shorts on the weigh-in to promote it, possibly nobody will understand half of the things he'll say... Then, he's gonna dance and speak to Joe while they're fighting, will try to beat him to the punch with a flashy shot and move around the ring... Roy is to steal the fight the same way Bernard tried to - did anyone hear Roy tellin Alton Mekerson what was Tito really doing? He's gonna try to figure out Calzaghe and control the fight... So why the f*** is Joe disacrating Bernard if he won a SD? I would only understand it if he's emotionally disturbed about Bernard's lack of sportsmanship or if he is trying to get the Millenium Stadium sold out for his upcoming fight.
Hmmmmm because Bernard is a classless guttersnipe who showed no class before, during or after their fight.
Roy would be a lot classier than Bernard if he lost. Since his 2nd defeat Roy has shown himself to be remarkably humble. I'm sure both would be very respectful during the promotion.
But we already knew that so Joe should not take it so personal. Bernard has done much worse to Tito, Don and many PRicans tryin to get a piece of that ass... Just watch Hopkins against Allen the second time and in the fourth round - Allen was three times on the floor for two low blows on the blind side of Rudy Battle and a punch on the break and after the bell... I wonder what would Joe say now if Nard would really get classless in there.
Bernard is going to be Bernard no matter what. Its up to us fans to sift through this bull****. That being said, He was an utter beast back in his day and I honestly have never seen a fighter look that good being 43 years old fighting at light heavywieght. He could very well be the most conditioned 43 year old fighter there ever was.
fair comment, the Roy Jones fight is a tough one, if we go by the old sayin of last thing to leave a fighter is his punch? and Jones does have a punch of sorts at light heavy. dunno, Jones is a "name" fighter i guess. I personally would like to see Calzaghe retire but if he seeks to further his legacy then fightin on in more big fights it the way to go. ps - thought calzaghe made a good point sayin that hopkins should have tried to ko him after knockin him down in first round and if it was him he would've gone for the ko. sorta true if u go back to his fight with eubank where he floored eubank in the first round (which HBO commentary got completely wrong lol, sayin calzaghe got floored in the 1st rd in that fight), and he did go for the knock out, perhaps forgettin tha eubanks chin is made of adamantium.
Joe is too hung up on his undefeated record. Hopkins' losses do not, not make him a legend. Lots of great fighters have lost multiple times, especially in the twilights of their careers. If all that decided a fighter's legacy was his 0 then Sven Ottke would be a god.
I agree with you about the gloves - his hands have held up for a while so he can probably risk the others, but he is hung up on his 0. Even after his win he should be bigging hopkins up but instead he mentions him losing 5 times. He did the same before the fight, saying hopkins cant be a legend because he has 4 losses. In the interview with des lynam he said the only thing he's scared of is losing. He's desparate to retire undefeated. It means everything to him.
He wants to retrie undefeated no doubt, but he also said he only want the big fights. RJJ will be next, too monet money being thrown at it, but id like to see the Pavlik fight before he retires.
