Surely to be truly great yourself, you have to actually beat a great fighter?

Calzaghe never did. Not clearly at least.

Calzaghe isn't, and has never been, great. He is a glib opportunist. And a 'very good' fighter at best.

 

whats that about but they are great fights havent saw the mancini fight

you saw limon vs chacon 4 that is a brawl but not as good as edwards vs chacon 2

 

Hopkins is a great fighter. And Calzaghe did beat him, 75% of people think he did, so I think you will need to accept in threads concerning legacy that will be considered a win by most people.

 

I would say its closer to 50/50 that 75%. But I'm cool with people feeling that Calzaghe won. I just happen to disagree.

Will Calzaghe's legacy improve with time? Lennox Lewis is held in a much higher regard now than when he retired. If Hopkins gets another good win and Kessler actually gets a fight and shows how good he is it will help JC.

 

I didn't notice that! Perhaps you changed your mind when you realised a Calzaghe win might tip the Hamed/Calzaghe greatness axis the wrong way

I think the problem is in boxing to win you have to throw punches, this ain't Willie Pep. Hopkins showed himself to the better technician, but you still have to go out there and win the fight. Hopkins rested on his laurels after his early good work and let the fight slip away.

 

dosent matter if Hopkins and Kessler endup unifying the HW division Calzaghe is still not an ATG and is not even the best welsh boxer ever
