I honestly dont think Ottke wanted the fight at all. Warren didnt help the situation by offering paltry sums of cash to Ottke, who was a good earner at home. But you hardly ever heard Ottke chasing big names.

Joe ended up going to Germany anyway.

 

Who do you people think he should have been fighting, given that many fighters you are going to name refused to fight him because he was so high risk?

 

One night I looked into it quite a bit, and there were offers, and contradictions from both sides. If I remember rightly there was a quote from Joe saying he was unwilling to go to Germany.

Like most these things it's impossible to say for sure one way or the other. I could pull up loads of news articles with offers Joe claimed he made to Ottke, just as I could do with offers Ottke claimed he made to Joe. Having said all that, I'd probably give Joe the benefit of the doubt on this one.

At the end of the day though the only thing to say for sure is that they didn't fight.
