There have been many threads about Joe C lately, mostly comparing him to his current peers or how me might do against their opp. But based on his career as of today, would he even be a top 100 ATG? Discuss. :smoke
No, he hasn't fought good enough competition to put him in that elite class, he still got a ways to go IMO.
Exactly, Calzaghe practically stayed at 168 his whole career, defending the lame WBO belt against C type competition after fighting Eubank, it was only in March of 06 did he decide to challenge a fighter worth a ****. Guys like Hopkins, Toney, and Jones won belts in multiple weight classes, and also unified the belts much quicker, which took Joe nearly 10 years to do. I wouldnt worry about any top notch Boxing historians putting Calzaghe anywhere near the top 100 ATG list, they might stick him somewhere in the top 200 where he belongs.
Of course Calzaghe is top 100. I don't give a **** what anyone says -- a fighter who's unbeaten in 17 years and very likely to retire undefeated, probably 46-0, is going down in history. Once he's done, you can sit there and wonder how long it'll be before you see this kind of achievement again. Only later will many of you appreciate who Joe Calzaghe really was. Take note. Only haters disagree, and those little wannabe gangsta 50 Cent loving crack heads don't know **** so who cares.
Not yet. If he adds Hopkins, it'd be hard to say otherwise, despite Hopkins being in his mid-forties... Hopefully he stays for one extra fight after Hopkins.
Let him beat old Hopkins, like he will, and he'll have earned the spot. His skill set is much more worthy than his resume, though.
Agree on his skill being more worthy than his resmue, disagree on him beating Hopkins. Old man river is already grabbing the mental edge, he will disrupt Joe all night en route to a decision.
Whatever you say. If you're willing to bet on it, PM me. Calzaghe by Wide UD or late TKO. Hopkins, stylistically, stands no chance here, how can you not see that?
