Great movement isnt predicated on footspeed, its on footwork. Something Hopkins is INCREDIBLE at it. And historically a fighter with great timing, movement and defense is POISON for a faster fighter with a high output (look no further than Quintana - Williams a few weeks back). Its proven over and over again.

Look at what Hopkins movement did to Winky's output....1100 vs Quartey, got outworked vs Hopkins (threw only 600 vs Bernard)....EVEN with Bernard's low workrate (which BTW is a myth...the Taylor fights yes...when it was his gameplan to start slow and come on late when Jermain faded....go check the punch stats its clear as day what happened).

Good footwork and movement doesnt allow the high output fighter to get set to throw in volumes. Timing allows said moving fighter to be able to counter or lead when the high output fighter does attempt to get set. Defense allows the moving fighter to not get caught when the faster, busier guy does work.

Reading that last paragraph, I am SURE that anyone out there that has watched boxing for more than a couple years just had at least 10-15 fights pop into their mind. This is a MIRROR of that.

Again, go watch Quintana - Williams (the most recent said example), where, Paul had the speed, reach, output, age, power, strength, etc. advantages. Yet Quintana used great side to side movement (not nessessarily fast) and timing to win a fight most felt was unwinnable. I understand that Calzaghe is 50x the fighter Williams is....but Hopkins (even at this age) is 300x the fighter Quintana is. Its more of a comparison of styles than names.

And no, Im not confusing prime Hopkins for old Hopkins. Im talking stylistic matchups...or rather mismatches. By saying Calzaghe is faster and has a higher workrate, then that is saying he has a PHYSICAL advantage...not a stylistic one. Stylistically, this fight is FAR in favor of Bernard.

    Even Old Bernard.

Calzaghe is top 30 easily, even in the eyes of his worst critics whom possess any degree of cognitive powers.

The enlightened have him in the top third amongst their top three all timers.
