Gareth is correct. Woods was terrible. He looked like he got stage fright and/or got really really ****ing old overnight. Tarver did the same thing over and over, and it worked.
woods has a cemented boxing stlye,.. he couldnt turn it into a fight, he should have done more clinches tarver would beat him everytime
Was impressed with Dawson's hand speed but was alarmed at his chin. Tarver landed a couple of half decent shots, one of which landed in the 12th and saw Dawson crawling towards the final bell when his overall performance was dominant. Fortunately for him Tarver didn't have any zip to his performance and couldn't capitalise on those rare occasions though. Joe on points
A mismatch, Calzaghe by easy UD. Dawson Is troubled by Johnson's old man workrate, he wouldn't handle Joe's workrate and superior skill. Dawson has a shaky jaw too.
Tarver Is not that good, Wood's was under the illusion he was fighting a legend just because Tarver beat a shot Roy. He let Tarver beat him, Woods thinks If he's American and beat someone good, he will lose to them. I can;t believe he let Tarver get away with calling him a hand picked opponent and letting Tarver say "look how pretty I am".
Tarver has always been shite. To be honest Woods was a disgrace in their fight. Dawson looked quite good but was allowed to. Calzaghe has beaten better fighters than Dawson. Calzaghe points
Calzaghe by UD or late stoppage. Dawson has got talent and tools but I fail to see a consistent approach through out. Against Tarver and others he will look amazing when opening up but then look like ordinary. Calzaghe is too consistent over 12. He'll just keep touching him to head and body. Joe will be too awkward. He'll be catching Dawson with his head in the air. If Joe gets past Jones he could beat Dawson.
I don't think Dawson has enough power to trouble Calzaghe, and like TFFP said Dawson tends to have periods where he doesn't throw anything for a minute or two. Calzaghe would not give him any opportunity to do this.
Thats the way Dawson fights and thats his biggest weakness and I do think this what could be his downfall against Calzaghe, although in every other aspect, Dawson is a match for him right now.
Tarver looked extremely lethargic in large parts of the fight, Dawson's body attack and movement slowed him right down but he seemed unable to capitalise on it. In spurts Dawson looked awsome but was clearly taking breathers - something Calzaghe won't allow him to do as others have stated. Tarver is a strange fighter, he was never Grease Lightening but he looked totally past it against Dawson. He fought at a similar pace against Woods but got away with it due to Woods inexplicably poor performance. He was there for the taking and while Dawson did so convincingly it was no grounds to suggest he would beat Calzaghe. Calzaghe would take a fairly competetive decision imo.
Calzaghe on points for me in this one. Still not convinced about Dawson and he can only fight in spurts, Calzaghe would be in his face all night throwing shots though. Dawson I thought looked good against Tarver, but Tarver himself was poor. He looked all 39 years of age after 6-7 rounds. A good couple of rounds of bodywork would have made sure he wouldn't have got up, he was exhausted and wasn't putting much of anything on his punches. This could be due to Dawson's bodywork, but I thought he didn't land that much due to Tarver excellent defense. Just to add, Clinton will have watched that performance and cried, had he pressure Tarver and thrown shots I think he would have UD'd him or possibly stopped him late.
