Many could beat him or trouble him.

Monzon would have a great chance to outbox him.
SRR would have a great chance to out work him.
RJJs speed power and reflexes would give him a great chance of taking a UD.
Hopkins could possibly out box him.

Many people would trouble him or beat him in his prime , yes he is one of the top H2H MWs of all time but he was not super human

Duran fought an incredibly close fight with a prime Hagler.

 

No love for Harry Greb?

 

Greb does trouble Hagler i was just using some modern examples.

I am sure the likes of Greb , McCoy, Ketchel , Burley , Nonpareil Dempsey would give Hagler more than a problem or two.

All the posts in this thread are suggesting Calzaghe takes this pretty easily, yet Hagler is comfortably ahead on the poll. For a minute I thought that people were finally coming round to the fact Calzaghe can be favourably compared with the most legendary fighters in history.

 

It's true LP, Joey didn't recover quickly after the few times he was caught flush. But Marvin was a monster puncher. Joey doesn't have the power to get his respect, and Hagler would walk him down all night. Marvin wins by KO, but Calazghe would be ahead on points by the half way point that is for sure.

 

Hagler wasn't a huge puncher Vano. He was heavy handed and consistent but most of his wins came an accumination of punches.

 

Not sure I fully agree Gaz. I agree that Hagler perhaps didn't have tremendous 1 punch KO power like a Hearns for example, but her certainly had enough power to trouble Calzaghe. While I agreed with LP that Joey did have good recovery skills, Hagler would catch him and follow it up. Don't forget, Hearns tried to outbox Hagler in the 2nd and 3rd (albeit with a broken hand), but Hagler managed to get inside and knock him out. While I actually think Joey was a better 'boxer' than Hearns, I don't think he was good enough to keep Hagler at bay for 12-15 rounds with the limited power he had.

 

Hearns was still on ***** Street from round 1 though mate, he was only ever 1 decent clip away from being in real trouble again. Its one of the reasons I think that fight is very overrated, take away the suspense of the cut and it was only competitive for the first 90 seconds of the first round. After that it was Hagler walking an injured and hurt Hearns down.

 

I used to slate Joe all the time but have realised he was a very good boxer.He was nowhere near as good as Hagler though,not even close.Marvin wins it around the half way mark and it would not be a very hard nights work for the bloke.

 

Joe is a very good Boxer, but he is overrated by a hell of a lot of people on here.

 

He sure is,just been on about him with my mate.He would have a few loses on his record if I were a judge.The only time I thought he lived up to the hype was Lacy.
I have come to accept he was good but will never call him great,the opposition was usually weak and when it was not I always thought he either should have lost or that the scores were way too wide in his favour.

 

Kessler was a good win. Both in the opponent and the performance.

 

If Robin Reid and Eubanks couldn't wear Calzaghe's chin down, then I doubt Hagler can.

Calzaghe's chin outside the first round, where he always took a dive is immense.

 

The ref helped him beat Reid.Reid should have been the winner.I think Hagler would stop him but even if Joe did hear the final bell he would lose on points.Hagler is just a far better fighter.
