Joe Calzaghe has always said he lacks the motivation to fight a Carl Froch.

Froch is not a big enough name........he cant get motivated for him.

he been saying this kind of **** for the last few years.

So as a example .........I want to question what was the reason for fighting Rick Thornberry in a World Title fight.

It was one of the most forgetable World title fights in histroy.

A WBO defence of the "World" Title

By the guy who was not regarded as some paper champion but as the NO 1 in the Super Middleweight division.

It was in June 1999 the fight.

he hurt his hand early on and laboured to a dull boring points decsion against a guy who would be never good enough to win a WBC World Super middleweight title.

Calzaghe V Rick Thornberry sums up Joes Legacy of the 1990's.

I hope Froch will make much more worthwhile defences of his world title.

i wonder what it was about Rick Thornberry that made him worthy of facing Calzaghe............while Froch will never be worthy? :huh

    I don't recognise the WBO.

This fight was merely an international twelve round affair.

its a shame that World Class British rivals duck each other

    Calzaghe and Hatton.............both well guilty

    Credit to

    benn and eubank

    and

    Enzo and haye

Someone was gonna lose painfully..............but both wanted to fight each other

I don't recognise the wbo either. I can't get over Calzaghe having the cheek to say there are too many titles in boxing.

Hatton and Calzaghe are tarnished in my view

so is Johnny Nelson who ducked Enzo for years

and Calzaghe has had the last 3 years to fight Froch too........so even if he is retiring its no excuse he had the last three years to fight Froch

Calzaghe said he wont fight Froch...........but would KO him out in 3-4 rounds

Nelson ducked Enzo.........and when Haye had the guts to face Enzo........and knock him out in 2 rounds...........Nelson came out and said he would have done the same

Do you know how shallow that sounds..........Nelson was too much a coward to fight Enzo even when their fight was announced and they posed for photos he never intended to go through with the fight

And when haye beat Enzo........it was almost like Nelson wanted to be credited that he would have done it too...........despite the fact he never had the guts to fight Enzo to find out..........he let haye take the chance instead

I do not count the WBO. The fight was a joke. Much like Calzaghes entire career.

If Calzaghe wanted bigger fights he could have simply left Warren inbetween contracts. The fact is we have never seen Calzaghe step up. He was very happy fighting overmatched opponents

No one has a problem with Eubank being the WBO champ or guys like Margarito and Guzman who held the belt.

He did step up no doubt.

the fight was nearly 10 years ago, when a fighter gets to the end of there career, and they've made a lot of money its all about motivation, when Calzaghe fought Thornberry
he wasnt exactly a big name, and he was still young, motivation wasnt an issue, but when your fighting Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins in your last half a dozen fights its hard to get up for someone who isnt on your level.

  13. Credit to Enzo, you're ****ing deluded mate. Enzo has fought ONE top class fighter EVER and lasted 2 rounds. And I like Enzo.

World Class British rivals ducking each other? Hatton swerved Witter due to personal bad blood, the first chance Junior got to shine and solidify his position as a genuine challenger to Ricky, he ****ing blew it.

Calzaghe beat all domestic rivals during the time he was sitting on his WBO strap. Reid & Eubank were still dangerous fights at the time. Now, pondering retirement, after winning every belt there is to win at SMW & The Ring LHW belt, what's the point of fighting Froch? He's not ducking him. I for one wouldn't even be arsed seeing it, I'd rather see him fight Dawson & Froch fight Kessler.

  14. It's swings and roundabouts, if you wanted to be a picky ****er you could start a thread saying 'LOL, WTF was Tyson doing fighting Julius Francis?' or 'How can MAB call himself an ATG when he fought Andy Holligan?!'

If you delve through most great fighters records, you'll no doubt find between 60-80% tomato cans, that's just the way it is.

I wouldn't have said Calzaghe is ducking Froch.

Trouble is - in the timeframe that Froch is been pursuing him, there are names that are clearly inferior, such as Manfredo and Bika.

It is easy to criticise Calzaghe because he made 18 defences prior to a unification fight, and his resume has plenty of gaps in it.

Plenty of other fighters have similar issues, but don't bleat on about being a 'legend killer'. He made himself look really stupid by saying in his book that Jones was shot to bits - then two years later (after Jones had beaten nobody of note) make the fight and try to say that Roy had made a decent comeback!

Also the whole 'Britain's best ever boxer' nonsense attracts hate - because that is what it is. NONSENSE.

I am a Calzaghe fan BTW
