When was the statement made when he says something like "Roy Jones is a good fighter, and I don't want tough fights, just big money?"

If you're referring to his weight issues, then of course.

But when that fight was signed, he was the favourite, and was considered one of the best fighters in the world. He was 26 years old, undefeated, and was an elite fighter.

Nope. You definitely didn't watch the fight. Hopkins deserved that decision. And he also dropped Mercado at least twice but for some reason the ref kept calling them slips. Probably because they were fighting in Mercado's home country of Ecuador? Yet, despite two official "knockdowns" of Hopkins, the best they could give him was a draw in his own backyard.

Toney was having problems about 12 - 14 months before he even fought Roy. and then it was years after that before he got himself sorted. of course, Toney being Toney, he couldn't keep it up for long.
the issues were spoken about when he fought Roy. in fact, they spoke about that more than they did the fight itself. well, it seemed it at the time. it took a lot of the gloss off for loads of people. myself included.

yeah, but Toney wasn't happy about the fight happening. he apparently threatened Jackie for putting it together.

it's not an excuse. it's just the facts that surround the fight.

and hell no, Toney wasn't professional. he barely was throughout his whole career.

it's still a very good win for Jones. but not a great one.

We'll let me tell you this, which you may find as funny.

Everything in that post was FACTUAL. :good

We all know why you only read the first two lines. It's for the same reason that you said you didn't want to go there again, on the previous page.

You don't want me to pull you out of your fantasy by using facts.

Keep dreaming, everybody that knows anything about this sport, knows two things.

    1. Joe wanted no part of Roy when he was at his best.

    2. There's no way that Joe could ever have beaten him.

he didn't say that in 99. he said he wasn't going to chase Roy in 2003. it's common knowledge that Wa55en approached Roy at this time. Roy even spoke about it. :patsch

they're some good wins for Jones, but not the best that was out there. hell no. Tarver even made his name off of Roy. before it he was pretty much a no body.

Ruiz WAS a clear cherry pick. it doesn't take away from the win, but you can't dispute that it was. because it was a clear what it was from the get go.

    i don't troll at all.

Who did Roy miss who were better fighters than Toney and Hopkins?

Who did he dodge, and what were the circumstances?

    Let's see the list.

i would have picked Jones to win the rematch as well. but it never happened. Jones should have taken the 50-50 that Hopkins wanted. i think Bernard had earned that after beating Tito and becoming undisputed champ. it would have done wonders for Roys resume. but he never took it. he priced himself out yet again.

Hopkins did fight like a punk in the rematch, you're right.

i agree that Jones beats Toney and Hopkins at any point. i've never disputed that. but the truth of those situations is where it's at. Hopkins was green, and Toney had huge problems with weight.

    How's it going mate?

    That was in 99.

I can't post links at the moment.

Just google - Joe Calzaghe - I'm not chasing Roy Jones, I don't want tough fights.

When the results come up, it's from an article titled - I'm Lord of the Welsh ring claims Calzaghe. It's from the freelibrary.

The original article was from June, 1999.
