Why would Joe want to waste his most important signature fight (His finale) against a one time great yet tarnished RJJr.. Fight a live name and take the do or die stance Joe... Great fighters are often remembered by thier final fight.. Face a live one.. a Pavlick , Taylor of Glencoffe Johnson even.. They are men that i value over the dead carcas like that of Roy.. You wanna be remembered as a cherry picker on your highest note .. (Roy is a gimmee) Take on the best , you have done up till now , don't dissapoint, buy your ticket to Canastota today..

You know better than that.. :good

He was a veteran when he fought Lacy and Kessler who were live, younger champions........I doubt you'd turn down the money he's being paid to take this fight

First off, Roy is no "gimmie" in this fight. This is a fight Roy can and I believe will win. He still has enough speed and power to take Joe.

Second, from Joe's perspective, this fight is low risk, high reward. He gets an ATG on his resume plus big $$. However, from a real boxing fan's perspective, we know the ATG on his resume is a bunch of bull**** b/c in no way would he have beaten Hopkins or Jones in their respective primes.

I think he could have beaten the 2004-2005 Hopkins, but obviously when Roy was at his best nobody could really touch him.......

Calzaghe has been fighting the best of the best for the last couple of years. Lacy (thought to be the new Tyson), Kessler (Considered his only remaining threat at 168, and Hopkins (Reigning 175 Ring Champion).

Now he is taking on the greatest fighter of the last 25 years, and while RJJ might not be the fighter that he once was, he is still one of the craftiest boxers around - and not to forget, a former heavy weight champion. Roy Jones is a far bigger guy than Bernard Hopkins, who people thought looked big compared to Calzaghe.

I think that this is a very exciting fight. Jones will most likely be more motivated than ever before, knowing that he can virtually redeem himself by winning this one fight, and Calzaghe will finally get the name on his resume that he always wanted.

I don't think fighters are remembered by their last fight. They are remembered by their prime time-frame.

Let's not forget this fight is in the USA and people in the USA love Roy Jones, Hopkins just didn't have the fan base or popularity that can help garner a hometown decision........I just have a feeling Jones will get the points decision, but he'll have to fight for 2-3 mins of every round not 45 seconds like against Tito

I'm still of the opinion that Joe's last fight will be in Wales. Jones won't be his last fight. Although who he fight's after this, is up in the air.

Basically, yeah :good . Financially it's good compensation, and he gets to have another "marquee" name on his resume :( . OK, it is a load of crap - clearly the guy would lose to prime versions of either B-hop or Roid :hand . But it's all about smart management. Folks years from now will remember Slappy Joe not for being "overrated"; they will remember he was an undefeated champion who took down two "legends" in his last 2 fights :-( . The boxing critics will know the difference, the regular Joe six-pack fan won't :verysad .

Why would you risk all that to take on a "live" opponent like Pavlik, who is sure to give Joe a severe beating in his last outing :ko? It really makes no sense since he will be a high-risk-relatively-low-reward proposition.

Of course, this is all considering that he gets past RJJ in the first place, which is by no means a complete certainty. I think folks are miscalculating just how much of a threat an in-shape RJJ could be to Slappy Joe. He will certainly have enough "pop" in his punches to KD the ever unbalanced Welshman on one of his frenzied :fight attacks. But will he have the stamina :tired ?

Guys like Jones often have one more great fight in them. From Roy's perspective , this is his last chance to go out on top, and against a current p4p contender. Roy has experience, physical talent and motivation. He also has more raw power than does Joe, and if Roy observes one flaw in Joe's style , he could very well capitalize on it . To me despite his success, Joe seems very beatable, and I think Hopkins should have gotten the decision against him. Roy is a very live underdog indeed.

Hopkins didn't get the decision cos he nowhere near earned it!!!

He never came to fight (i think he decided to trade once and then had a smile on his face as if he had actually done something!) he hugged, used his head and feigned injury....it was only close cos there was no real action due to Hopkins merely circling the ropes all night

Jones needs to hope Calzaghe has a bad day cos Jones can only throw one flurry of punches in a round at the moment

Exactly!! Who wouldn't!? especially at Joe's age!!!

I love how all these guys on ESB have these morals and moan when these match ups are made, but they would do the same

Plus lets not forget it was RJJ before and after the last Calzaghe fight who was making all the noise to get this fight signed, he even sked Joe at the post bout press conference, Calzaghe would be naive not to take the money!!
