Please demonstrate your knowledge of recent boxing history and tell me when (what date) a Toney-Calzaghe fight should or could have taken place.

And while you give the matter your deepest thought, you could have a look at the following:

"A teleconference was set up in my office in New York for July 30th, 2002, and on the call was myself, Don King who was in the room, Frank Warren and Bernard Hopkins' lawyer, Arnold Joseph. Along with Arnold was a woman named Linda Carter, who was there on behalf of Bernard. We asked Arnold if Bernard wanted to fight Joe Calzaghe and we asked him how much money would he want if he did. The response we got was $3million and the fight would have to take place in the United States. After a little scratching of the head, we said 'Okay, done.' Frank Warren agreed on the spot, Don King agreed and we agreed so as far as we were concerned all parties were singing off the one hymm sheet. Arnold excused himself with Linda and I can only assume it was to call Bernard. Either that day or the next day, they came with a new demand: $6million, double the sum that had been agreed, the deal blew up.....he had then and still has no desire to fight Joe Calzaghe, that much is pretty clear.

Joe gets criticised sometimes for not having fought the big-name Americans, but in this case the fault has never rested with him."

    - Jay Larkin, then Showtime TV Network's Senior Vice-President of Sports and Event Programming.

Well Kaynan, I guess those boxers quoted in the thread likeLeonard, Mayweather, Benn, etc. (including Hagler, who formed his opinion after Joe's first title fight) "...are just giving away their inexperience."

Good thing we got someone of YOUR more seasoned experience to set us straight from their inexperience !

That's because 2 are American, 1 is non-American but with a huge immigrant Filipino population living in the US. You have to look at the majority of who posts here: anyone who can read/write in English that are avid boxing fans: Americans: Latinos/Filipinos/Blacks/Whites are the majority, then British fans I think come next, then Filipinos.

Calzaghe gets the same hate as the Klitchkos from the haters here because

    1. he is not American
    2. he is undefeated
    3. he is white (to those who are racists but are in denial)
    4. he never beat a great American in their prime (not his fault)
    5. he retired and noone will ever get the chance to stain his record
    6. envy, jealousy, from haters in general that will probably burn in hell when they die

The comments from Mayweather, Ray Leonard speak for themselves!

No-one can really say those guys are not wise judges when it comes to noting good, talented fighters!

listen to all you. "i didn't like his style. he was boring"
well ofcourse he was boring. sooo predictable. all he did was win. goto bernard hopkins in the ring interview after their fight. he said joe "caused problems" for him. that one statement should tell you volumes.
and don't gimme "hopkins was old. past his prime in that fight". that would be a foolish remark. considering hopkins then fought and beat young strong middleweight champ, Kelly Pavlik. hello.
the old saying styles make fights holds true. also the saying you can't please all the people all the time. joe may not have pleased all the people, however he did have the style to win all the fights.

I dont agree look at jones and mayweather.. Jones had his share of haters too in his young days. Alot of people from the usa dont like people who talk alot go 12 round and dance in the ring... They like fighters who will KYTFO inside 6.

I was not a big fan of his style, but it is obvious that he was the best.

Neither did RJJ. I don't deny RJJ's greatness, but he pissed away his prime years fighting nobodies while tougher tests were ignored.

They never said he was King Kong, Mr. Amazing, superhuman man like his delusional fans. There are levels of praise.. I'm sure you're aware of this.

Nigel Benn saying "Calzaghe would have beaten me" is not the same as the people who say he'd beat anybody within reasonable weight divisions of him.

Mayweather saying he's the best CURRENT British fighter and not Ricky Hatton (gasp) is not the same as some of Joe's fans who say that he's one of the greatest ever.

Go actually read some of those quotes.

Steward should know better than to chat **** like that. Surely he must know about Calzaghe's hand problems.
