Joe Calzaghe vs Antonio Tarver

I love watching people desperately scramble for reasons Calzaghe would have lost, or digging up fighters from the past who would 'KTFO of Calzaghe'.

End of the day, he was barely even hurt in 46 unbeaten fights, had incedible powers of recovery and was a hell of a hard *******.

 

He never fought a power puncher that's why. Who the hell was Lacy beating to be claimed a power puncher that guy stinks and always has.

Didn't Calzaghe get put on his ass against old ass non power punching Hopkins for the first time? Calzaghe was on the verge of getting put on his ass at least 3 times in that fight. Not to mention getting put on his ass by old ass Roy Jones and getting his nose broken. There's a reason he retired early.

 

Excuses excuses. Lacy, according to the Yanks, was the guy who was gonna knock Calzaghe out. As soon as he gets absolutely humiliated he was never any good anyway.

Hopkins is a crafty fox, it's not about punching power, he timed Calzaghe coming in and landed a right on him. You don't have to be a big puncher to knock someone down.

Jones didn't even knock Joe down legitimately, it was a forearm smash that knocked him down. That would stun anyone. But Calzaghe got straight up and carried on fighting as if nothing had happened.

 

A prime Tarver has a shot, sure. But I'd still favour prime Calzaghe to figure him out and outwork him.

 

Calzaghe boxes his stupid bald ass off.

 

It's not his actual legacy people have a hard time accepting. 46-0, 20+ defenses are great achievements. But they need to be taken in context. From 98-05, the bulk of his career, the list of defenses is not in the least impressive. He beat "US greats Jones and Hopkins", but they were both past their best, particularly Jones.

If people were to accept the accomplishments for what they were and rate Calzaghe accordingly, I don't think you would see these constant attacks or the constant threads for, and against him.

 

There's definitely some truth to this. Otherwise everybody have just stalked him down, and it's not like Calzaghe ran away from a fight in the ring.

 

Pretty comfortable win for Calzaghe. He would give Tarver fits.

 

Tarver's only chance is to catch him with a big shot early like in the 2nd Jones fight. Otherwise he gets swarmed by Calzaghes activity and loses a wide decision. Provided he can get out of the early rounds, this would probably be an easier fight than Hopkins.

end of what day? Same day that 2 fortysomethings of lhw almost koed him in round 1 once he was outsdie the saftey zone of the weak supermiddleweight division. Or different day?

Prime very good LHWs wouldnt have let Calzaghe get up, having the extra gas and prime to finish him.

 

joe landed as low blow to stop hopkins from knocking him out, as he admitted.

Basically in a fair fight, joe would have got koed early for making the mistake that hopkins was very faded. This was a hopkins who was now unable to drop other fighters he faced. joe was easy to put on his azz.
