Calzaghe for me. Higher work rate, just think he finishes better probably get out boxed early on and wins 8 or 9 of the rounds.
Tarver only ever impressed me once after he knocked Jones out, when he outscored Clinton Woods - and even that was partly down to Woods just not turning up and meekly surrendering his belt in atrocious style. Decent fighter, but boy did he get elevated way too high because of that shock KO of Jones which, in hindsight, wasn't quite as amazing as a lot of people thought albeit still a cracking performance and victory for Tarver. I think Tarver was way too cagey, low-output and limited to outscore Calzaghe and I don't see him getting a stoppage either. With his caution, height and reach he could make it awkward for Calzaghe, probably frustrate him at times and even make him look bad, but I don't see him getting into the fight enough from an offensive point of view or doing enough to impress the judges. Calzaghe by clear decision.
I could well be, it's just my opinion at the end of the day. But would be genuinely interested in hearing your reasons for saying that, fella.
1. Arguably best US am ever. 2. Harding win in rematch was really good. Harding was very good but his prime ended on that night. 3. Jones’ weight cut was overstated. He didn’t gain that much and had trouble with Harding earlier until Harding had an arm injury. Tarver was his toughest test since Toney/Hopkins. Jones was always going to have trouble. Tarver lost close in a high quality fight Jones. 4. Jones was in better form for the rematch. Tarver landed the same punch that he destroyed Harding and Chris Johnson with. Del Valle dropped Jones w the same shot. Wasn’t luck or Jones being shot. 5. Tarver got robbed against Johnson and avenged it immediately. 6. Tarver’s window was basically Harding II through the Johnson rematch (he’s older than Jones). Still beat Woods, Green, Banks and some others while past it. 7. Never stopped.
