OK, here is my best shot: Calzaghe had an unusual ability to adapt, even when he was beaten for a few rounds. Foster might very well knock him down early, but Clazaghe has amazing powers of recuperation. The combination of very fast hands and relentless punching tends to throw off bigger, stronger fighters. Ray Leonard backed up Halger with his flurries, Hagler says he was never hurt, but he didn't walk through those flurries and knock him out. Same with Hopkins against Calzaghe. Speed and high punch volume can get a great fighter off his gameplan. There are fights where one fighter "should" definetely win because of his power, yet the other fighter comes up with a gameplan and an exceptional performance to win. I believe Calzaghe would be able to pull off such a feat, similar to Ali - Foreman or Leonard - Hagler. He had a special winner's mentality, not losing a fightin 19 years, amateurs and pros, is probably unique in boxing history.
