Could Calzaghe outbox Foster and get a points victory against him?. I say no, but what do you guys think?

I think Foster would brutally stop Calzaghe mid rounds.

I think this would be competitive.

Whether his detractors like it or not Calzaghe could have made himself a grade A pain in the but for just about anybody his weight.

A lot would depend on how he took Fosters punch. He fought a few bangers but it seemed to be the slicksters who put him on his backside.

I am prepared to give Foster the benefit of the difference in light heavyweight resume.

I submit that NONE of the slicksters he fought aside from Hopkins were as slick as Foster. Given that Foster keeps the hardest p4p punchers in history company and the super-slick over-the-hill Jones was able to dump and stun him, i don't see a competitive fight.

Calzaghe is square, attacks in rushes, has proven vulnerable to the straight right hand. In stylistic terms it is not possible to make a top-line fighter a better fit for Foster.

KO1-4 would be my pick, and given his form at LHW (down in the first round 2/2) I think i'd be up for having a punt on the first round KO.

    Agreed.

Foster punches too hard for Calzaghe to absorb any of his shots and counter effectively. Calzaghe's busyness as a fighter may win him a few rounds outworking Foster, but he wouldn't survive 12, definitely not 15 rounds against Foster.

I dont understand why Calzaghe keeps getting matched up with ATG light heavies, he met two 175 pounders one was 43 ,one was 40 ,both went the distance with him ,and both dropped him,he goes about 5 rounds with Foster.

Although they dont have the same style, I think this could be like Saddler v. Pep.

Agreed, but i'm entirely satisfied that Calzaghe's punch resistance is not equal to Dick Tiger's punch resistance. Foster utterly destroyed Tiger, as you know. Based upon what I know of Foster's punching power and Calzaghe's punch resistance (and he was down and hurt a couple of times) i'm perfectly satisfied with my read here.

There will have been very few fighters who climbed in with a puncher who weren't aware of what was coming. Foster wasn't some slugger, he had excellent boxing skills and very very good timing and world class delivery. Taking in combination with Calzaghe's stance and style it's Goodnight and Good Luck.

That's kind of you, but Joe has never been in a LHW fight where he didn't hit the deck in round one; i must insist i be allowed to take my chances!

I doubt Joe would beat Chris Finnegan at this weight.
