it wasn't about that. it's like saying calzaghe wanted a prime jones and hopkins, but they didn't. you have to earn your shot at the fighter who has the higher reputation, and froch (pre-jermain taylor) wasn't there yet.
Apparently, Calzaghe was a hard slapper. I think Calzaghe would have won on points but Froch was certainly capable to beat Calzaghe.
Calzaghe is exactly one of the prototypes that would give Froch trouble, a quick handed, volume punching, quick footed, guy that moves his head and has an abundance of stamina and is durable. Froch's best fights he takes guys to the trenches, he wouldn't be able to do that with Calzaghe, Hell.........even Bernard who shuts down everyone's offense couldn't stop Calzaghe from throwing.
i agree with the rest of your post, but let's keep it in context. hopkins was well into his 40's at this stage.
I answered this question not only correctly but with the highest degree of specifity (and succinctly to boot, I'd mention, if not burdened with humility equal to my wit, virility and beauty) in the second reply, how is this still an ongoing thread?
Even Froch admits he'd need a KO in this fight .. and that ain't going to happen , Joe has a solid beard.. & Carls KO ratio declined as he stepped up levels anyway .. truth of the matter is a prime Kessler is better than Froch let alone Calzaghe
