I was never a fan of Calzaghe and did prefer Froch tbh as a fighter but Calzaghe could do everything better than what Froch did. I would say Calzaghe win by points decision.
How is Calzaghe the greatest at 168lbs ever when his two legacy defining wins came at 175lbs against shop worn RJJ and B-Hopkins?
You think a crude boxer like Froch would be ahead on points vs Calzaghe in first 6 rounds ? I have to say that surprises me. I think Calzaghe would school Froch. I commend Froch for taking more risks than Calzaghe did, but in an actual fight between the two. The gulf in class is very apparent.
He was the greatest 168lb fighter ever when he went up and beat the 2 fighters you note. Calzaghe was closer to the end of his career than either of the two you mention and at a new weight
I agree. His win over Broken Nose Peter Manfredo seals the deal for me Andre Ward's resume at 168lbs trumps anything Calzaghe did at 168lbs. Even a hater would agree on that.
How? There is no how , it's just opinion… Jones is the most talented fighter to ever fight in the division but he left it not long after beating a ballooning up & down in weight Toney.. it depends on your criteria really, I sort of look at Joe in the DM type mould of fighter.. a long reigning dominant champion.. his career was book ended by Eubank and Kessler with weak defenses mixed in with some solid opposition aswell (Brewer, Mitchell, Reid, Woodhall, Bika, Lacy etc) .. just depends on your criteria really but even on talent & physical attributes alone he was pretty special.. combine that with the fact there was no major media hype machine or massive PED program behind him he just worked from his little shack in Wales with his dad with ****ed up hands and still achieved greatness imo.. I certainly think he ticks most of the boxes, it's not just about resume… but his win over a prime Kessler at 35 stands up well, that was a historic fight for the division too.. I also think that night he lit the American prospect up in a landmark boxing display stamped his mark on super middleweight… Literally ruined the kid… Those are the marks of greatness things like that, you don't have to like him mate nobody said you did but he certainly has a case for the best ever at that weight, and many of his peers agree also so it's not just fanboy hearsay
Willing to travel more Froch fought Kessler in Denmark, Taylor in America, Johnson in America, etc. And fought better opposition overall. Of course Calzaghe's era wasn't as strong which is no fault of his own, but I feel like Calzaghe could of moved up to Light Heavyweight sooner and challenged himself more.
Joe on points. too fast and a better skill set than Froch. Both had good chins but Joe would simply out work him.
So Wards best win at the weight is faded Kessler who Calzaghe beat when prime So Calzaghes win over undefeated unified champ Kessler was greater (that was also end of SMW career Calzaghe) Calzaghe beat Eubank who had a far greater resume than any SMW on Wards resume which is a greater win than Froch Bika arguably Wards next best win whilst not very active was also beaten by more convincingly by Calzaghe previously Abraham arguably Wards next best SMW win wasn't as impressive a win as Calzaghe beating Lacy Roll in all of the other world rated SMWs who either were SMW champs, or became like Woodhall, Reid, Brewer, Veit, Mitchell to go with Lacy, Bika, Eubank, Kessler As well as 22 world title wins at the weight and winning all of the titles You can't even debate otherwise lol
