Suggesting that Froch > Calzaghe is as asinine as Mayweather < Margarito 5 years ago.

A better question is Cazaghe vs Ward. As much pressure as Froch brings, it is not the kind of pressure that bothers Calzaghe. To beat Joe, you need to shut him down by providing no easy openings and then either punch or rack up points.

Ward vs him would have been an intriguing match-up. I think it'd be a close affaire either way, possibly the Welshman's workrate edging it for him.

Joe is too quick. He might not have knocked out Bute in 5, but he would have outpointed him no problem.

I actually think Froch is about to Surpass Calzaghe in terms of legacy. Last night shows us that those "0" mean little - it's level of competition that matters and Froch has fought and beaten more good fighters by now than Calzaghe ever did.

Why do people feel the need to ask this question whenever Froch wins a fight?

Calzaghe would, and probably still could, box Carl's head off from the starting bell to the moment his corner pulled him out with a face resembling a cabbage.

Time dulls the memory too much for some people, but the boxer almost always beats the puncher and in this particular case it would have been a very one-sided battering. It's a shame we'll never see Calazaghe v Ward though, that would have been a good fight. I still think Calzaghe would have taken it on points though. Go and watch a few videos of him and remind yourself of what lighting fast punches are - and how many of them he threw and connected with time after time.

One common opponent does not tell the whole story.

I think Calzaghe would beat Froch, but Froch has taken so many more risks and done more to actively seek out the best throughout his career.

That has to count for something.

Their respective efforts against Kessler does NOT tell the whole story.

Calzaghe is too fast for Froch.

Calzaghe is the type of guy who can take advantage of small openings. Froch keeping his hands down at the waist is only asking for trouble against Calzaghe. Froch will end up wiht a great legacy of his own, but head-head, he cannot beat Joe. It's the wrong style for him.

Calzaghe vs Ward is a great mythical match up. It's really a pick-em.
