THIS FIGHT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED.So,April 2009,who wins this fight? Is it close?Did dawson have much better chance to win than bernard hopkins? What do you guys think?I hate the fact that joe retired with a young undefeated champion in the division.
I respect the way you feel about him not fighting Dawson but i don't think Joe would have gained that much recognition for winning and it certainly wasn't worth the risk of his undefeated record. I think it could go either way however I'd give a slight edge to calzaghe just because of his experience and the way Dawson performed against pascal. Could go either way or evens draw but I'd predict a md win for joe
Calzaghe. And I can't even blame him for the fight not coming off he was at the end of his career clearly looking to cash out and Dawson was struggling to sell out a cupboard
Thread close indeed. I laugh at the "Gary Shaw, that might be the most hated human being on the planet".
Joe would have won, w/out a doubt. Even past his prime, then. Dawson one problem is he so defensive, and does not let his hands go enough.
50-50 fight. I think Dawson would win because he presents a style that Calzaghe has never dealt with. Plus he's a southpaw with a strong right hand.
Calzaghe. Dawson would not have the time to impose his rythym with his jab and reach since Calzaghe would simply outwork him with his volume of punches. I'm not sure this is the type of fight Dawson likes very much.
Jean Pascal was able to confuse and get off first on Dawson with punches from cross the street. Calzaghe would completely tool him. Joe with a awkward style, who mixed offense and defense brillient, great footwork, master adapter, mentally very strong, an energizer bunny workrate that made you feel like you were in a aerobix class...This would be a mismatch.
Calzaghe wins because Dawsons heart and stamina especially was highly questionable at the time. calzaghe slaps his way to a UD.
