who wins i personly think gmans straights and left hooks to the body would have been to much for joe. plus he was a better boxer then kessler who caused all sorts of problems he hit joe with punches that if gman hit joe with he would have stopped joe.
hard to say, Nigel himself has said he thinks he would have lost to joe, difficult to gauge, joe would have outboxed him....but would he be able to take the power?
you have to admit GMAN was a fast powerful guy who hit harder then Arthur Abraham . there is no dout he would have brought it to joe. the thing is joe is very easy to hit. and when your easy to hit gman destorys.
Apart from if you're Nigel Benn. He took shots all the time. I wouldnt say Calzaghe is hugely easy to hit anyway. Having said that though i still think Gerald would have been too much. I rate Mclellan extremely highly.
Calzaghe would've schooled McClellan, who would be one step behind all fight. He would almost never be completely set to unleash his power against a high volume fighter like Calzaghe. He would be off balance and get busted up.
very good thread, this would be the one joe calzaghe fight where i would say a 50-50 fight. i respect mcllelan big time, i've no doubt in my mind that mcllelan would have beat jones jnr.
The only good fighter McClellan beat was Julian Jackson, who was a limited boxer that relied heavily on his huge power. Jackson was not known for his punch resistance to say the least.
G-man would be a tough tough fight for any MW or SMW. Past present of future. But if you could get past 6 rd with him you would have bigger chance of winning. One thing saves Calzaghe here and thats his great cheeeen. 60-40 Calzaghe
I haven't seen a huge amount of G-man so I don't honestly know if he showed any signs of struggling with certain styles or attributes, but what I did see of him was that in his early days he had great boxing skill - an incredible offensive arsenal, good handspeed, decent movement - probably could have worked himself into being a very neat and tidy boxer with inate skills like his speed and power to compelte the package. We all know he went a bit power-mad towards the end of his career once he decided it could bail him out of pretty much any situation he got into. Based on that it's hard for me to say he'd walk over Joe but a lot of what i've seen of him would make me think he's definitely capable of it. Calzaghe was dropped by Jones and Hopkins; picture what a prime G-man would do!
mcclellan was one of the biggest p4p hitters i've ever seen in a ring. the benn victory over mcllelan is one of thee must under-rated victories of all time. benn went through hell that night. if james toney or hopkins had that win on their resume it would be brought up on here every single day of the week.
For once you make a valid point that I agree with. The ending of that fight really marrs Benn's achievement. Mcclellan was a monster, and the most feared fighter in that division. Benn fought him, took a beating but braved the storm and came back to knock out an opponent better than anyone on Eubank's or most other contemporaries resume.
