Calz by decision, but GGG is a lot better than Lacy, and would have fared much better. I wish you idiots would stop comparing him to Lacy. GGG has actual skill, and IQ. Lacy had neither.
I didn't mean that GGG fights like Lacy.. I meant they are similar in the fact that they were/are power punchers and both hyped like crazy.. And I also believe Calzaghe would beat him by wide UD.. There are simply too many unknowns about GGG, for me to believe his ring IQ and skills would help him against Calzaghe any more than Lacy's did. Lets also not forget that Lacy was the bigger fighter.
I know folks will get sensitive about this comment but I doubt he would fight GGG at this point in GGG's respective career. Not saying Joe wouldnt win its just that his career sorta points towards him either waiting until GGG is in his late 30's or move to 175lbs like he did when guys like Dawson were around.....sure, sure everyone is going to say Joe would have beaten Dawson but in all honesty a Prime Dawson at 175lbs would have been quite a handful for Joe even if the guy was a mental midget with what turns out to be a glass jaw (he did take some leather from Tarver, Adamek and Hops all three hit harder that Joe.
It would have all been based on activity level....everything points towards Dawson probably losing the bout but what kills me is we will never know! Joe's career has so many questions it hard for me to give him the proper respect he proably deserves....even if Hopkins is going strong now he still fought a 43 year old man he clearly operated at a highter level when he was younger....Eubank was half the man when they fought and RJJ was merely a freaking empty shell of what he once was, Lacey was getting tagged like the fat kid in a park in a dodge ball game vs Ruben fing Williams! a couple fights before facing Joe....I mean WTF you don't think prime Dawson or Ward would have given Joe some freaking hell?
If you can't see that GGG is a million times better than Lacy then you must have no clue what it is you are looking at when you watch a fight.
Well, isn't that what folks were saying about Calzaghe before he fought Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins and RJJ? Point is, he goes from never stepping up, being unproven vs good competition, to being a great, and untouchable by future fighters who are in a similar position he was. All based on fighting an unproven guy, a decent fighter, and 2 old guys, 1 still capable, the other shot. Odd, this fickle sport of boxing is, I tell you.
Bad style match-up for GGG this one. Joe throws too many combos and stays out of range from the slowish GGG Joe UD
I'd still think that is the most likely outcome. Calzaghe had such an unusual style that I don't think GGG would be able to properly prepare for it. Factor in the size difference and speed advantage, and it points to a Calzaghe UD.
