I think it'd be a close fight. Calzaghe could outwork him with slapping shots that don't land, but Toney would land the cleaner blows.

I think it'd go down as an official decision win for Joe, but it'd be debated for years to come (if it happens prime vs prime).

Toney takes the early rounds before Calzaghe takes over and steals a close decision. In reality it could end up as a wide ud for either guy.

This is how I always thought it would go. I could see Toney stopping him as well . . . but that is not a given

Toney has the superior skills, Joe the amazing workrate.

Doing the math, Toney wins early rounds, hurts/floors Joe once or twice, Joe rallies with his low hit rate/high output late on. Joe gets scored for hitting when actually missing/flapping in Wales for a SD or a draw, whilst anywhere outside Wales Toney scrapes a SD/UD. Calzaghe cannot hurt Toney EVER, but Toney can drop Calzaghe, I think this is the determioning factor in neutral territory.

prime for prime, Toney is superior, but best of 3 will probably go to Joe, Toney wasnt disciplined enough to win all three. Mind you Joe always ran away from rematches versus tough fighters! So best of 3 wouldnt happen.

At LH, Toney would win a clearer UD, visibly hurting Joe with his natural weight advantage (amen to that blubberino)

Toney lost to bums, Calzaghe is undefeated. Rjj made a fool of Toney, shot, bloated brittle boned Calzaghe humiliated Rjj. Calzaghe would dance around Toney and utterly batter him, what a ****ing stupid thread and a ****ing idiotic list of moronic Americans standing up for their national steroid icon. Toney is and always was a hbyped up PED abusing bum.

Evander Holyfield was old and past it by the time they met.

I do fear for Toney these days. The drugs and weight gain, plus the strain of training, cant have done good for his heart. I hope he dontdo a Michael Duncan Clarke (RIP Kingpin :tomb)

Prime Toney UD. He would tag Calzaghe all night with that counter right hand. Calzaghe would be slapping away at thin air. Fat Toney is outworked and loses by decision.

Toney could be outworked as he climbed up in weight. At 168, only superman (also known as 25 year old Roy Jones) could touch him.

why would Calzaghe take over later?

That only works if the other guy gasses out/ Joe cherrypicks them when they are old or injured.

prime toney lasts 12 rounds at full work rate, and with far more accuracy and damage inflicted than joes 10% hit rate/ 200% volume.

We know what can beat toney, speed and footwork of the highest calibre coupled with accuracy for 12 rounds, We know what can beat Joe, excellent counterpunching but in a prime fighter and not a 43 year who gasses out after 6 rounds of a fast fight. There maybe other high calibre opponents that can beat Joe but unfortunately he never testesd himself agains them so we don't know whether Joe can beat some other opponents, the question remains unanswered - whereas we know Toney CAN beat some high volume punchers.

    So decision goes to James.

The right hand, Calzaghe's southpaw stance has been vulnerable to this punch IMO, he has been put down 4 times in his career, all by right hands, and James Toney in his prime had that punch mastered.

Check out this video, Calzaghe had a chin.

Now imagine what James Toney in his prime would do.
