Yes. I am arguing that Toney should have the advantage, but that doesn't necessarilly mean that would. If it boils down to natural ability and talent, to raw potential, then I have no hesitation whatsoever in admitting that Toney is vastly superior to Calzaghe, however Toney's lack of consistancy hurt him, and dire performances against vastly inferior opposition like Thadzi and Tiberi and twice struggling with Griffin means that any fighter in a hypothetical match up against Toney is in with a chance of beating him and that dismissing a fighters chances against him out of hand is to completely diregard Toney's inconsistancy.
Prime Toney was too skilled for Calslappy. Calslappy loved to beat fighters past their primes though. So in there with a fat unmotivated Toney he may have edged him.
Calzaghe is Toneys kryptonite. High work rate pressure fighter with decent skills. How does Tobey outwork JC? He doesn't. Can fat toney KO a fighter who was never koed. Toney had a habit of pulling the lights out trick when he was fighting around super middleweight, but not against Calzaghe. This on earth goes to JC on points.
High slaprate won't do it. If The Welsh Rabbit had the goods to beat JT...he did a damn good job hiding it
Toney was a fighter who was inconsistent and would fight and train at the level of his op . . . I do not think Toney would take Joe seriously and may lose because of it. But if we are talking peak v peak . . . Joe does not stand a chance in hell. The only one who stood a chance was a Prime RJJ and if Toney could have stayed away from the buffet he would have made it interesting.
Joe Calzaghe would hide from toney till toney turned 47. So James might well get a phone call sometimes soon.
