With Calzaghe's forray into the 175 lb. ranks. How would he do against John Conteh for the 175 lb. Championship? 12 & 15 rounds.
I don't think Calzaghe would beat Finnegan or even Andries at light heavy.Too old, too easy to hit and not enough of an offensive arsenal to stop most full, strong lightheavyweights from fighting their fight.
Honestly, there's no real way to make this comparison, because Joe had only 2 fights at lightheavy against past it Hopkins and shot Jones, both former middleweights.
I gotta agree. I think Conteh's jab would dictate the pace in this fight rather than Joe's work rate. Conteh by a clear UD
RJJ may be shot (IMO) at this point in time. But people make it sound like B-Hop has nothing left. Although not the physical specimen he was a few years ago, he has adapted his style to make the most of what his body has to offer. b-Hop would still be a formidible opponent (the last 3 years) for most LH's of other era's. So past his prime, but still a formidible opponent (although I hap Hops winning by a point)...and Joe showed he could hang with an elite fighter at this weight.
Conteh by decision. I had a big argument with a mate of mine who's a big Calzaghe fan the other day when I hypothetically chucked Calzaghe in with Muhammad, Qawi and Mustapha Muhammad.....he got very pissed when I told him Calzaghe wouldn't have been able to hang with those guys and accused me of being a hater. I went to see Calzaghe vs. Kessler but I'm also a realist....COnteh would win on PTS, Qawi and Saad would smash him to pieces,
I don't think we saw enough on Clazaghe at light heavy to judge, and let's remember when we did Clazaghe was past his best. Hard to say.
Yes he did ,he also got put on his arse by two men, 40 and 44 years old. Calzaghe does not beat a top LH Champ in his prime
conteh by decision. conteh was an animal when he on his way to the title and one of the most athletic boxers i've ever seen
