Calzaghe would have worked him over as badly as manfredo got worked over, maybe worse if we're talking about a prime Calzaghe, because his punches would be that much more devastating due to no hand injuries. A closer fight would be Benn and Hagler, and Benn would win that also.
While most will justifiably favor hagler, its worth remembering that he was not a big middleweight even in the era of fight day weigh-ins; there are welterweights fighting today bigger than Hagler.
Hagler has never fought anybody like Calzaghe either. Much bigger, quick, fellow southpaw. I would favour Calzaghe at his peak.
Now Hagler is my favourite fighter but those picking him by an easy win are deluded. Hagler was a 160 fighter from the same day weigh in era. Calzaghe a champ at 168 and 175 from the day before weigh in. Calzaghe is a champ at effectively 3 weight divisions north of what Hagler ever fought at and much the bigger man. He is also fast as hell and posses great stamina, skill and durability. P4P I'd have no hesitation picking Hagler, but at day before weight in 168 Clazaghe stands a a very real chance. I'd take Calzaghe for a very narrow decision but wouldnt be betting my house on it.
it would be like cotto margarito in my opinion with a similar end result also, haggler being margarito
That's an awful comparison. Firstly, Cotto has stamina issues, this is one of Calzaghe's strengths. Cotto has chin issues, this is another of Calzaghe's strengths. Cotto was much the smaller man, Calzaghe is much the bigger man here.
who has calzaghe faced to say he has a good chin? lacy didnt land anything worth mentioning and nobody is stupid enough to think kesslers power can be compared to marvelous marvin hagglers.
atsch Calzaghe has faced plenty of good punchers and has always taken them well. Even if he goes down he gets back up and is strong. That's enough to say he has a good chin at the least. The comparison was not correct. Calzaghe is nothing like Cotto, and shares none of the issues that cost him in the Margarito fight.
How is Calzaghe a champ at effectively 3 weight divisions north of what Hagler fought at, when it is exactly and effectively 2 weight divisions north? And the 2nd of which he only moved up to at 36 and has had 1 fight there, he is a career 168. Hagler and Calzaghe were a division apart. Hagler at his peak wins by UD. Simply a better fighter, he would control and dictate the entire fight. No disrespect to Joe here, Hagler was a great, that's all.
and also calzaghe is not the bigger man here, just because middleweight is his natural weight doesnt mean hes smaller than him, hopkins was bigger than calzaghe when they stood toe to toe and hopkins is another natural middleweight, anyway Haggler by the time he fought Leonard he was a shell of himself and lost almost 100% of his natural abillities apart from the intangibles, haggler in his prime would've stopped leonard no question about it
