It would have been a great fight between two amazing fighters. Most people will pick Hagler because he is the more prestigious name - and most fans on here feel nostalgic for the great fighters of the past and consider them invincible. Especially when comparing them to fighters of today. But Calzaghe was not the Joke many consider him to be and he deserves to be mentioned in the same breathe as Marvin Hagler.

Also Hagler is a HUGE Joe Calzaghe fan. He has serious praise for Joe, & Vice-Versa.

For me it's a fight that would equal Manny v Floyd; both fighters are capable of beating the other. It's a shame that like Manny v Floyd, we can't sit back and watch it - although lets keep praying for the latter.

Calslappy's name should never appear this close to Hagler's. Who on Slappy's resume makes you think he even belongs in the same ring as Marvelous, much less stands a chance of beating him?

I doubt the fight would go past six rounds, unless Slappy comes in wearing track shoes and the ring is 30 feet plus.

I'll bet all 3 posters voting for Calslappy are from the UK.

Hagler should win as long as he handles the jump in weight okay.

That's far from a guarantee, as Calzaghe would likely be a LHW for most of his career under the same day weigh-ins.

Hagler was the superior fighter, and there's been quite a few terrific middleweights who were able to win titles at 175, but it's still far from a guarantee due to the size difference and Calzaghe being a very good fighter.

Calzaghe would win quite convincingly. He is too fast, to much volume, to evasive.

    He would school that boy.

Come. on. dude. He refused to lose against Mario Veit, Mikkel Kessler and regional fighters and faded greats. Terrific fighter in his own right, but his competition leaves room for criticism. He was never, ever in the ring with a guy like a prime Hagler.

    Marvin Hagler on Joe Cazlaghe:

"I knew the first time I saw Calzaghe that he really had something, he went in there completely unfazed against (Chris) Eubank which nobody else had done. Eubank was the guy who usually seemed to have control of everything around him but the way Calzaghe went in there and manhandled him like that...

"Calzaghe showed and proved power, speed, strength, workrate, stamina, chin, heart and every tangible and intangible that night and that's why I'm not suprised that he's not lost since.

"Sometimes it's like watching a welterweight or junior-middleweight in a super-middleweight's body because he's so nimble and sharp handed. I would never bet against him."

That just shows me that Hagler never saw much of Eubank before he said it. Watson (twice) went in there and handled Eubank well, as did Benn in both fights, as did several others. Eubank was a good fighter in his prime but he was nowhere near that when he fought Slappy.

If Marvin really said that I suspect he was just being humble. In his prime he would have made mincemeat of Slappy.
