I don't want to disrespect Hagler but I think Joe's size will be the decider.

if you don't want to disrespect hagler then stop comparing him to a fighter who never fought a proven world class fighter in his prime

Calzaghe was 1 1/2 " taller, and gave up 2 inches of reach to Hagler. Hagler dealt with more than that in his career. At 168 or 164 I don't see it being a factor at all.

    What a nut hugger.:patsch:rofl

His reign was **** over rated. Light Weight and Welterweights, WOW.

Every Guy he beat in his reign could Not Win a meaningfull Fight afterwards. and alot of them had ****ing padded record when coming to title Fight Against "Marvelous". Quite embarrassing.

Hagler would be a 154 lber today, or Joe would be a 175 lber back in Hagler's time.

Possibly, possibly not. Who knows. Just trying to find common ground. Regardless of their respective weight classes, the size difference isn't that much between the 2 men themselves.

Hagler was more of a boxer/counter-puncher than a come-forward fighter.

The late fights in Hagler's career have totally misrepresented his style of fighting. Much like Calzaghe wasn't always a slapper with no power, or Leonard wasn't traditionally a dance/mover, etc...

Size a factor for Hagler? Has anyone not seen Hagler-Hearns? Hagler outboxes and outworks Calzaghe on a split decision, but a clear win for Hagler. There's no way Calzaghe is pushing Hagler back. This ain't Eubanks, Lacy, a past their primes Hopkins and RJ, or Kessler. This is Mother****in Marvin Hagler Calzaghe's worst nightmare. Don't even bring up Monzon.

When people talk about size, it's more with weight, not height and dimensions.

Calzaghe would be a LHW for most of his career under the same day weigh-ins.

How do you think Calzaghe will deal with pressure against a guy who refuses to back? SRL responded by boxing on the back foot quick flurries and run. Duran responded by boxing on the back foot, countering and keeping the exchanges to the minimum. These are things which Calzaghe has never done. So What I am asking is What can Calzaghe possibly do in response to this, what would be his Plan A, and if that dont work his Plan B.

The reason why Calzaghe has never done this, is the level of opposition hasnt been on the level of Hagler. But when he has been backed up, by lesser opposition in Byron Mitchell his response was to fire back, ***** street brawling. And in that mode the factors that come into play is heart, which calzaghe did show, chin and power. I think Hagler is a more accomplished brawler because he has shown this many times. He slugged it out with Mugabi who had a 100% KO ratio, and Hearns who was also a KO artist.

Resume and accomplishments dont come into play since both were in different eras and we are matching up Head to Head. Its not who they beat its how they beat. Boxers in the older generations never won titles and lost bouts such as Charley burley but are levels ahead of modern day world champions.

Can you tell me an example of Calzaghe doing this to a world class opponent. (not talking about the level of Hagler). Calzaghe was caught by the likes of Sakio Bika, Kabery Salem, Kessler, 43 yo Hopkins, 39 Yo RJJ, Mitchell, Brewer.... We are talking about Marvin Hagler here.

Out working can only be done against those who have:-
    1. Stamina issues
    2. Low durability
    3. Shaky chins

Hagler didnt have these, but probably is better than Calzaghe in all those 3 compartments.

The way Duran boxed in the Hagler fight, and the way Calzaghe boxes in general are not the same. Calzaghe has never showed he was the kind that would wait for the opponent to come to him.

What I am saying is, if you dont look at who they beat, but how they beat when matching up H2H, Hagler has shown the skills, the technique, the style, the methods that would trouble Calzaghe, moreso than Calzaghe has shown.
