Yeah Slappy beat legends in his time, they were ALL over 40 though. Why not ask Hagler how many geriatrics he beat in his day, and how much stock he put in those wins?

    "silence"

    Exactly.

    Hagler's the man.

His word is good enough for me.

Why wasn't 'Hagler by brutal death' an option on the poll?

Hagler had those short powerful punches fighing at southpaw or orthodox and he was strong. He would be a higher level of fighter than Calzaghe ever saw.

How does Hagler manage the jump in weight?

Even if Hagler does fine with moving up a division, Calzaghe is still a phenomenol fighter with all of the speed in the world and a tough high volume style. I can see Calzaghe getting the best of this one, though Hagler would of course have his moments as well.

I really don't think it's that plausible for either man to get a stoppage in this one. Two solid chins, two guys with great stamina, etc..

Calzaghe potslaps his way to victory.

He's freaking heavier than Hagler ever was and would outmuscle Hagler in close-range.

He pitty pats his way to a UD.

Hagler fights at 160 or below on fight night. Calzaghe entered the ring over the LHW limit at 178-180.

Calzaghe is fast and has many styles. He also has impeccable reaction timing and even the footwork to evade if needed.

Pacquiao's beating of Margarito where it shows a small man beating a big man will ONLY work if the bigger man has ZERO to almost no skills.

Even if you hate Calzaghe with all your heart, he's GOT A LOT OF SKILLS. Even Hagler and SRL agree to that point. He doesn't need to knock you out to win. To add with his skills, he's not a slow plodder at all and has comparable handspeed and footspeed to those fighters in the lower weight classes.

Silence nothing, the legends he beat all started out as light weight and some welter weight. Calzaghe would of beat them even more convinced. Halger went 15 with Duran, who is way to small to have been compettive with Calzaghe. Please....

Hearns would of beaten Calzaghe too. Kessler and a past his prime Eubanks are not ATG's. Calzaghe controversially beating a past his prime Hopkins does not convince me he beats a more skillful, stronger, Hagler. Calzaghe was very good, Hagler was great. Calzaghe would have no answer to Hagler's powerful southpaw jab, punishing left, and sustained pressure. His slaps would only **** Marvin off. Hagler also had an iron chin, Calzaghe not so much. Calzaghe would have his moments, but Hagler by late TKO or decision.

Haglers wins are against overblown opponents.
    Hearns/Duran/Leonard(had hagler up by 1)

Calzaghe beat them all, and at his late age he was destroying them

Because Calzaghe is a bigger opponent with a solid chin who was never stopped. And despite what some people may think because they watched the Hearns fight (and nothing else of Hagler), Hagler was first and foremost a patient boxer-puncher who broke guys down over the course of the fight with his jab and combinations, not some guy who often went in there and tried to knock guys out early.

In a P4P matchup, Hagler should win handily. He's a more skilled boxer from the outside, and a more refined in-fighter as well.

The fighters who tend to lose more moving up in weight are guys who rely more on strength & power than those who rely on boxing skills. Luckily for Hagler, he had the skills in addition to being strong and heavy-handed. He also had the reach advantage despite being shorter. Because of that, I think Hagler would be fairly effective at a higher weight against Joe (LHWs like Spinks and Qawi are a different story).

But I wouldn't be that confident of it since it IS a big jump in weight to go from middleweight to light-heavyweight (where Joe would be under same day weigh-ins).
