Calzahge has better names in Jones Jnr and Hopkins on his resume (even though both were probably slightly past their prime whne he fought the), However, Benn was much more exciting to watch.
Calzahge was the better fighter, no doubt imo, however in terms of better wins i'd say Benn edges it, his 2 best wins Barkley and McClellan came when they were both in their prime whears Calz 2 best wins Hopkins and Jones came when they were both well past their best. One good thing about both of them though was that neither got any lucky wins did they i don't think, though i haven't seen all of Benn's fights.
McClellan was surely in his prime? However, his terrible injury obviously will have made the difference...
Benn got a birthday present of a win against Malinga in their first fight, disgraceful decision by the referee.
I think Calzaghe takes this with Eubank, Kessler, Lacy, Mitchell, Hopkins, Reid, Woodhall, Veit, Jones, Brewer. It beats Benns very good win resume of McClellan, Wharton, Nardiello, McCallum, Galvano, Malinga. In fact Reid on Calzaghes list beat Wharton and Nardiello and Woodhall beat Nardiello and Malinga for what its worth
They were kinda different, Benn wouldnt never feel happy, probably more embarrassed, to get in the ring for the culmination of his career against faded fortysomethings. He was kinda like Froch in this respect, Froch wouldnt dream of setting his sights so. Whereas Calzaghe was happy to do so and clearly loved it, was whooping for joy as if he had beaten Ali and Frazier in the same night when he fought and outgassed 40somethings.
we are talking records here not what they were like as a fighter. I'd have to say Calzaghe takes it but just, mainly due to the last 2 - 3 years of his career.
this is true, though its the nature of the man that determines his path in life. Joe Cal had a longer champ career so its ok to argue he is ahead of Benn.
