I saw the fight live on TV but I truly believe Calzaghe was Roy best opponent and the fastest fighte he ever met too, Roy was a great fighter, but overrated.
When did Joe duck Roy? Jones ducked Steve Collins and didn`t fight Benn, he also stated that he would never have faced G-man as a pro after McClellan beat him in the amateurs.
He wasn't overrated. Joe wanted nothing to do with him when he was anywhere near his prime, yet he was desperate to end his career against him when he knew he was shot. Have a think about why that was. This thread is ridiculous. It would be like doing a film study on Ali vs Holmes.
Joe made damn sure their paths never crossed, by literally starving himself to remain at SMW, to defend a lightly regarded WBO belt for 10 years. Roy was in the U.S. just 7 pounds above along with: Dariusz, Reggie, Griffin, Hill, Nunn and Tarver etc. Joe stayed in Europe where he fought a guy like Mario Veit twice. He also said that he wasn't chasing Roy as he didn't want tough fights, and if he rid fight him he'd want the "Crown Jewels" Roy didn't duck Collins. He didn't duck Benn either. He said that he'd fight Gerald if he could reach a compromise with King.
He said he wouldn`t fight Nunn at 168 because of his boring counte punch style, he missed out on a lot of big fights.
He did miss out on a lot of fights. But only a handful of guys truly wanted to fight Roy when he was prime. Eubank, Liles, Calzaghe, Dariusz and Hopkins (rematch) wouldn't fight him. Roy should have fought Nunn when he became his mandatory at LHW.
I think you get the point I was making. What's the point in taking the time out to produce a film study, between a world class fighter and a faded legend who was no longer world class? Nobody needs to see a study. It was pointless. Joe himself said that Roy was shot before they fought. He literally used the word 'shot' The fight was meaningless. Joe only took it to massage his ego. He'd have been better off bowing out against Kelly Pavlik.
Try harder. Don King priced Benn out of the RJJ fight for reasons best beknown to himself. And Collins was proposed to HBO and HBO prefered the boxers who beat Collins.
