Kovalev is too big and strong, and he is not a dumb big guy, he can fight, Joe would be in survival mode and would lose by ud.pfp Joe is the better fighter but the size matters

Kovalev has a fair punchers chance but i'll take Calzaghe by UD.

How many fights did Calzaghe have at LHW?

    Calzaghe.

Kovalev thinks too much, punch volume will be his undoing.

if 40somethings at lhw can drop joe, one almost beating him with only half a tank, then prime kovalev would kill him pretty early, possibly in the manner of Nathan clev massacre.

joe didn't face a prime anything at lhw, nevermind a prime elite.

joes low accuracy volume slaps would generate a laugh from kovalev and he would walk thru them without a Cardiff ref to stop him.

but if we are being totally honest, joe would pull out wit a fake injury and fight..... someone outside the top ten instead.

Number of Cardiff refs that officiated in a professional bout of Calzaghes = ZERO but I have to agree with you that the mid 30's worn out version of Calzaghe who fought and beat Hopkins first time out @ 175lbs loses to this version of Kov @ light heavy .

So is this Calzaghe a prime one that is just bulked up by 4/5 pounds or the one that actually fought in the ring? My main issue with picking Kovalev is despite having very good fundamentals and intangibles, his best asset is his power and Joe had nothing short of a steely chin and although I can envisage Kovalev breaking him down over the course of a fight, at this stage I'd still back Joe to outwork him in a competitive decision, especially in a prime vs prime scenario

And everyone hates on Calzaghe's slaps, despite the fact he knocked Chris Eubank down in a matter of seconds. Past his best a might add, but Eubank's ability to take punishment was freakish

Calzaghe's chin wasn't exactly undentable though was it? Even in his prime he was decked by Salem and Mitchell.

My bad I thought this was an adult boxing debate .

A retiring Byron Mitchell? The guy fought on for TWELVE YEARS & has a further TWELVE fights lmao it's a shame when the uneducated casual attempts to debate boxing, BTW Dave Paris is from Leeds England not Cardiff Wales ( different country ) pal 😅😅

I don't have any hate for Calzaghe but Kovalev is a different beast. Far greater power than anyone Calzaghe faced and has the size, jab, and smarts to fight the fight at his preferred distance. Can't see Calzaghe winning this one.

    Kovalev. Easy work, too.

Joe got dropped by an ancient Roy Jones.

Joe got dropped by Hopkins. At LHW, Hopkins is no puncher.

That's Joe's best win there, and 'Nard wasn't exactly a spring chicken when they met. And look what Kovalev did to him...

Joe is a very game fighter, but that'd be his undoing against Kovalev. Not to mention that his power at LHW is non-existent.

No LHW of the past 10 years would beat Kovalev.
